Diddy’s Lawyers Accuse Feds of Leaking ‘Damaging’ Evidence to Media, Including Cassie Attack Video

Attorneys for Sean “Diddy” Combs are demanding an investigation into whether federal authorities leaked evidence of the racketeering and sex trafficking case to the media, including the infamous surveillance video of Combs assaulting then-girlfriend Cassie in 2016.

In a scathing court filing late on Wednesday (Oct. 9), Combs’ attorney Marc Agnifilo claims there has been “a series of unlawful government leaks, which have led to damaging, highly prejudicial pre-trial publicity that can only taint the jury pool and deprive Mr. Combs of his right to a fair trial.”

Agnifilo calls the leak of the Cassie video the “most egregious example” of the problem, but says it was just “one of a long and documented history of leaks and false statements made with one purpose: to savage Mr. Combs’ reputation prior to trial.”

Trending on Billboard

“While the government’s misconduct in this case is particularly egregious, it is unfortunately part of a trend in this district — the government has learned that it can strategically leak information with impunity,” Agnifilo wrote.

The filing asks the judge overseeing the case to order a hearing into the allegations and to allow Combs’ lawyers to seek out evidence of such leaks from prosecutors and law enforcement. It also asks the judge to issue a gag order barring any further leaks, and to prevent prosecutors from citing any leaked evidence during the eventual trial.

Combs, also known as Puff Daddy and P. Diddy, was once one of the most powerful men in the music industry. But last month, he was indicted by federal prosecutors over accusations of sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson and bribery. If convicted on all the charges, he potentially faces a sentence of life in prison.

Prosecutors allege that Combs ran a sprawling criminal operation aimed at satisfying his need for “sexual gratification.” The charges detailed “freak offs” in which Combs and others would allegedly ply victims with drugs and then coerce them into having sex with male sex workers, as well as alleged acts of violence and intimidation to keep victims silent.

“For decades, Sean Combs … abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation and conceal his conduct,” prosecutors wrote in the indictment. “To do so, Combs relied on the employees, resources and the influence of his multi-faceted business empire that he led and controlled.”

That indictment was preceded by repeated media reports that a federal criminal probe of Combs was underway, as well as well-publicized law enforcement raids on his Miami and Los Angeles homes. In the filing on Wednesday, Agnifilo said that media coverage had been fed by “a steady stream of false and prejudicial statements” and leaks from federal agents at the Department of Homeland Security.

The filing also alleges that government employees had “repeatedly leaked grand jury information and materials to the press to raise public hostility against Mr. Combs.” Agnifilo pointed specifically to the Cassie video, which showed Combs striking his then-girlfriend in the hallway of a hotel and made headlines when CNN released it in May

“The videotape was leaked to CNN for one reason alone: to mortally wound the reputation and the prospect of Sean Combs successfully defending himself against these allegations,” Agnifilo wrote. “Rather than using the videotape as trial evidence, alongside other evidence that gives it context and meaning, the agents misused it in the most prejudicial and damaging way possible. The government knew what it had: a frankly deplorable video recording of Sean Combs in a towel hitting, kicking and dragging a woman in full view of a camera in the hallway of the hotel.”

Sabrina Carpenter Rocks Phillies Jersey at Hometown Philadelphia Show

Sabrina Carpenter is repping her hometown in style.

During the pop superstar’s Short n’ Sweet Tour stop at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, Carpenter stepped onstage to perform “Espresso” in a bedazzled Philadelphia Phillies jersey with her name on the back, along with the fittingly cheeky number 69.

“Hometown show!!! I can’t believe I played the arena I grew up going to,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories before taking the stage. The singer grew up in Quakertown, Pa., which is about 40 miles north of Philadelphia. Carpenter’s Phillies jersey was also fitting, given that the team was up against the New York Mets in the National League Division Series — though the team ultimately lost a season-ending game on Wednesday (Oct. 9).

Albert Flores

Earlier this week, Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet returned atop the Billboard 200, after it previously reigned at No. 1 for three consecutive weeks. Featuring hits like “Please Please Please,” “Espresso” and “Taste,” the LP is the Girl Meets World alum’s first No. 1 album and sold 362,000 equivalent album units in its first week.

Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour will continue to travel across the U.S. and Canada through mid-November, with stops in Montreal, Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, Dallas, Vancouver, Seattle, San Diego and Phoenix before winding down Nov. 15 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

RAYE’s 5 Things You Didn’t Know About ‘Genesis.’ | Billboard

RAYE shares five — well, technically six — things you didn’t know about “Genesis.,” including how many versions were made, how long it took to create and more!

RAYE:

Hi, I’m RAYE, and here are five things you didn’t know about my song “Genesis.” The first thing you didn’t know is probably that when we performed it at the Brits, the song was not done. It wasn’t even remotely done at all. And in fact, yeah, everyone was like, “Release it. Release it.” Because I really wanted to play it at the Brits, but it just wasn’t ready. And it continued to not be ready for several months. And as soon as it was ready, then we put it out. So it took me a long time to finish. The second thing you didn’t know about that song is it was originally just two parts. Third thing, it was written not with me in mind originally, and then I decided, actually, do you know what? I really love this song, and I really need to get this kind of emotion off my chest now. So we went with it as a RAYE song. The fourth thing you didn’t know about “Genesis.” is I re-recorded my vocals about 12 times in four different countries because I was so particular about how I wanted it to sound and feel. The fifth thing you maybe didn’t know about “Genesis.” is I wrote it on the road whilst I was on tour, so it took a long time, and I never put myself through such agony creating a song. It was really tricky, and I had to get to a point where I just said, stop now, because there was so many different versions, so many scrap verses, but I’m really proud of it. But once I put it out, also, actually, here’s another thing, once I put it out, I haven’t actually listened to it since we’ve put it out, except for playing it live. I was like, I’m done. It’s yours now. It’s not mine anymore. Hi, I’m RAYE and that was five things you didn’t know about “Genesis.” Six things you didn’t know about “Genesis.”! Thank you.

Why Is Drake Posting Solange & Jay-Z’s Infamous Elevator Fade?

Lately, it seems like Drake has been doing a fair amount of sub-posting and speaking on things just vaguely enough that people think they know who he’s talking to and what he’s trying to say about them—but also, maybe not.

Recently, the “Hotlight Bling” rapper posted to his Instagram story the infamous photo of R&B singer Solange after she put hands on Jay-Z in an elevator in 2014. Folks on social media are wondering if the post had anything to do with Kendrick Lamar headlining next year’s Super Bowl halftime show, which a lot of people have speculated was a decision made unilaterally by Jay-Z. (It wasn’t, but there tends to be no point in introducing facts into discussions like these.)

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

In fact, it doesn’t appear that Champagne Papi can do much of anything without people drawing connections back to his internet-exploding beef with K-Dot, and the Toronto artist isn’t dissuading the rumor mill from running wild by being the opposite of candid when he speaks on whatever it is he’s going through as of late.

From Hot New Hip-Hop:

Still, Drake’s message here is pretty vague and mysteriously unclear, especially after his recent rant about fake friends. “One things about nostalgia, this party here?” he said at Toronto’s Nostalgia party. “My real friends are definitely in the building. But I’m going to tell you. You’re going to come to a point in life where people you thought were friends or people you thought were close to you, they might switch up. They might try to move funny with you. They might stab you in the back, they might do a lot of things to you. You’ll come to that realization, wherever you’re at in life. You’ve probably been there and you’ll be there again, that’s how life is. But look, sometimes, it’s you and you alone by yourself. Sometimes it’s you alone with your thoughts.”

Again, fans across social media speculated that Drake was speaking about “friends” who turned on him once it became overwhelmingly clear that Kendrick won the beef that exploded between the two emcees over the summer.

But who knows? Maybe Drake is just badly in need of a journal. Maybe the Solange incident just crossed his mind and he reflexively posted it on IG. Maybe he just knows how people get to talking and he needs a little attention. It might not have anything to do with Kendrick Lamar or Jay-Z at all.

Maybe we’ll never know.

Mexican Mayor Found Decapitated One Week After Election Win

The crime in Mexico has claimed another politician’s life. A mayor was found decapitated just after one week of being elected.

As reported by on USA Today another official has fallen victim to the rampant violence in Mexico. Alejandro Arcos met his demise on Sunday, Oct. 6 only a couple of days after winning the mayoral race for Chilpancingo; a town south of Mexico City. According to the local news he was found with head cut off. Soon after photos of his head on top of a truck went viral on the popular messaging app WhatsApp. Al Jazeera reports that the late mayor was on route to Petaquillas but had decided to forego having guards secure him. “The mayor was going to Petaquillas for a meeting alone,” Security Minister Garcia Harfuch said. “We know that he was going to a specific meeting, he was not accompanied, communication was lost in the community, and the discovery [of his body] was made hours later.”

Naturally the murder made headlines throughout the Central American country. Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the act and made it clear that Arcos’ murder will be prosecuted. “We are going to fortify the intelligence investigative capabilities of the Mexican government,” she told reporters. Evelyn Salgado Pineda, governor of Guerrero expressed her sadness via X, formerly known as Twitter. “His loss has saddened all of Guerrero society and fills us with indignation” she wrote.

Friends and family of Alejandro Arcos carried his coffin throughout the city on Monday, Oct. 7 for the funeral ceremony. He was 43 years old.

Piers Morgan Apologizes to Beyonce & Jay-Z After False Claim | Billboard News

After interviewing Jaguar Wright, Piers Morgan has apologized to Beyonce and Jay-Z. Keep watching to see why.

Piers Morgan:

Well Jaguar Wright unexpectedly made several serious allegations about Jay-Z and Beyonce

Tetris Kelly:

After a guest on Piers Morgan made claims about Jay-Z and Beyonce in regards to Diddy, the powerful duo said not so fast, and now Piers is apologizing.

Piers Morgan:

We apologize to Jay-Z and Beyonce

Tetris Kelly:

Piers did this after hearing from their team.

Piers Morgan:

As I said in the moment, they were not present to respond or defend themselves, but now they have. Their lawyers contacted us to say that those claims are totally false and have no basis in fact and we’ve therefore complied with a legal request to cut them from the original interview.

Tetris Kelly:

Piers explained why his guest was invited on the show to begin with.

Piers Morgan:

The shocking allegations level that Sean “Diddy” Combs have burst the floodgates on salacious claims about an industry many people believe harbored a monster. Understandably the internet is ablaze with claims about these events and whether other powerful figures were involved, too. That’s why we invited her on to be interviewed. The people making these claims have an audience with, or without shows, like mine.

Tetris Kelly:

He ended by stating he doesn’t take the change lightly. We reached out to Jaguar for comment.

Piers Morgan:

Editing interviews is not something we do lightly on a show called “uncensored,” but like the proverbial cries of fire in a crowded theatre, there are legal limits on us, too.

Kamala Harris Scores Big Media Blitz With Howard Stern & Stephen Colbert

HipHopWired Featured Video
Celebrity Sightings In New York City - May 22, 2019

Kamala Harris took part in major interviews with Howard Stern and Stephen Colbert, closing out a busy media day for her campaign.

Tuesday (Oct. 8) turned out to be a major media blitz for Vice President Kamala Harris, as she took part in interviews with Howard Stern and Stephen Colbert after appearing on ABC’s The View. The Democratic presidential nominee’s appearance on Stern’s Sirius XM show had a few key moments, beginning with Stern blasting former President Donald Trump for declining a 60 Minutes interview. “It just says so much,” Stern said. “He didn’t want to be fact-checked. This is madness. This is insanity. What do you mean, you don’t want to be fact-checked?”

Harris would jab Trump for his false claims about the 2020 presidential election, calling him a “sore loser” and taking him to task for his “dictator on day one” comments. “Understand what dictators do,” said Harris. “They jail journalists, they put people who are protesting in the street in jail.” She also commented on the bombshell report of Trump sending Russian President Vladimir Putin COVID tests at the height of the pandemic when he was in office. “People in America were struggling to get tests and this guy is sending them to Russia, to a murderous dictator for his personal use?” she said. Stern declared that he’d vote for her in November.

In her appearance on Late Night With Stephen Colbert, Harris opened up more, even sharing a beer – Miller High Life – with the host who expressed that he got advance permission to do so. Harris spoke about her Republican endorsements from Liz and Dick Cheney, praising them for putting “country over party.” Colbert asked her about her thoughts during her debate with Trump last month. “It’s family TV, right? It starts with a W, there’s a letter between it, then the last letter’s F,” she said, laughing and adding later on in the interview, “This is what happens when I drink beer.”

The appearances by the vice president were strategic in targeting key journalists supportive of her campaign, as many observers complained that she was ignoring traditional media outlets. Stern’s base, predominately composed of white males, is a key demographic for the Democratic party, evidenced by the “White Dudes For Harris” collective. Colbert has been a strong supporter of both Harris and President Joe Biden in the past, appearing as a host for fundraisers.
