Young Miko on Performing With Feid, Creating ‘att.’ & More | Behind The Photo | Billboard

Young Miko takes us ‘Behind the Photo’ and shares what it was like to perform with Feid on the Jimmy Fallon show, her inspiration for ‘att.’ and more!

Young Miko:

Hello, family, how are you? My name is Young Miko and today we are going to go “Behind the Photo.” with Billboard. Here we are on the Jimmy Fallon show with Feid. We sang “Offline” together. It was my first time at the Jimmy Fallon show, so it was very special and it was super fun, a super nice experience. I’m glad I was able to share it with Feid. I mean, when I was a little girl,  I loved to put on band-aids of any character. I think they were like Elmo or from The Simpsons. I thought it was cool to be able to wear colors all over the place and when we made the track “curita” on the album ‘att.’ this was the first thing that popped in my head and I shared it on socials because… I’m here with Mauro, as you can see, my better half, time to make music. This is my brother, I don’t know what would become of me without him. We were in Los Angeles and we were working on ‘att.’ in fact. One of those wonderful days with him in the studio. This was the first time I posted a photo with my somewhat copper hair. Someone Published some lyrics of a song that says: “The red hair with The Rolling Stones T Shirt.”

Kodak Black Makes Strange Appearance on Kai Cenat Stream

Kodak Black spent some time with Kai Cenat on his 30-day Mafiathon Twitch stream recently, leaving fans concerned.

The Florida rapper arrived, put a Haiti scarf on, pulled out a Stanley cup, and got comfortable. The convo started off innocent enough as Kodak revealed that he spoke fluent Haitian Creole and frequently plays FIFA. They then took a tour of Kai’s pad, but once they returned back inside, Kodak’s behavior became increasingly erratic.

At one point he started to kick a freestyle about not wanting sex because he was waiting for the bus as Kai had a concerned look on his face. There was also an instance where one fan suggested that Kai kick him out for acting so weird and posted a clip on X where Kodak had his shirt off and was talking about wanting to watch a movie in the theater room and maybe taking a nap.

Kodak also allegedly popped a pill by throwing it in the air and catching it with his mouth. When Kai noticed and understandably asked, “F—k was that?” Kodak smiled and answered, “That was a glitch for the Twitch.”

During a more wholesome exchange, Kodak admitted to having a crush on both Zendaya and GloRilla, and started to blush when Kai said he was going to Facetime the Memphis rapper.

Streaming for 30 days straight, 24/7 in the month of November, the streamer stated on Instagram that he plans on donating a portion of the money he makes during “Mafiathon 2″ to help build a school in Nigeria. “I visited Nigeria not too long ago & absolutely loved it,” he said in an IG Story post. So, I say that to say this for the next 30 days while I’m streaming 20 percent of all revenue will be going straight to the school that I am still currently building for the kids of Mokoko.”

2024 Election Spending by Live Music’s Top Bosses Mostly Flat With 2020: Where Did They Donate?

Political spending among the major players in the live music industry has largely remained flat this election cycle, while contributions by individuals working at Live Nation were up slightly over past years and money spent on lobbying members of Congress dropped in 2024, according to election data reviewed by Billboard.

At Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), owner Phil Anschutz spent $1.9 million supporting this year’s Republican reelection efforts but opted not to throw any support behind presidential candidate Donald Trump. Anschutz has never supported the brash presidential candidate, but though AEG boss is sinking millions of dollars into efforts to flip the Senate for Republicans.

Live Nation chief executive Michael Rapino, on the other hand, gave $25,000 in political donations to mostly Democratic Senate candidates and causes, records show, while the usually politically active James Dolan, chairman of Madison Square Garden Entertainment, made a single $25,000 donation this election cycle to Secure NYS PAC, a shadowy political action committee created to defeat House member Tom Suozzi (NY-D).

At Live Nation, executives donated about $387,000 to mostly Democratic candidates, a drop of about 6% compared to 2020, when executives donated $410,000.

The spending cycle comes during an unusually politically active year for the concert business, with a major ticketing reform package inching forward in Congress and the Department of Justice’s investigation of Live Nation on anti-trust grounds making its way through the courts.

Neither political cause has driven major spending by Rapino or his long-time rival Anschutz, who has once again sunk hundreds of thousands of dollars into an effort to flip the Senate over to the Republicans. Anschutz, a Colorado billionaire who made large parts of his fortune in energy, railroads and communications, has long supported groups like the National Republican Senatorial Committee. This year, Anschutz made more than 200 donations totaling $1.9 million to right-leaning political groups, the bulk of which went to political groups supporting Senate Republicans like John Cornyn, John Thune and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Anschutz also spent $1.9 million during the 2016 cycle and $836,000 during the 2020 cycle.

Rapino spent considerably less than Anschutz this election cycle, with his biggest political contribution being the $10,000 he donated to Live Nation’s political action committee, which gave $200,000 to candidates from both political parties this cycle. As an individual donor, Rapino cut about $4,600 in donations to Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jacky Rosen in Nevada and supported Adam Schiff’s campaign for Senate in California, as well as the campaigns of high-profile California House members Katie Porter and Eric Swalwell.

Meanwhile, Gregg Maffei, president/CEO of Liberty Media and the chairman of Live Nation Entertainment, spent more than $112,000 on conservative politicians and political causes, mostly supporting the presidential candidacy of Trump and Senate Republicans. That’s significantly down from the 2020 election cycle when Maffei spent $420,000 on right-wing political causes and politicians, and the 2016 cycle when he spent $324,000.

Celine Dion Honors Quincy Jones: ‘His Reach Truly Extends to All Corners of the Globe’

Celine Dion has paid tribute to iconic producer/arranger/composer and bandleader Quincy Jones, following his death Sunday at age 91.

“I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of my friend, the one and only musical genius, Quincy Jones,” Dion wrote on her official social media accounts. “Quincy touched my world as both a cherished mentor and as also as someone I looked up to for his deep impact on virtually every form of American music. I was privileged to work with Quincy, it was a dream come true. In our sessions, his musical intuition was nothing short of profound – he helped me capture “a little piece of heaven.” Quincy always knew exactly what each song needed.

“In addition to his kindness and countless achievements, I also admired him for his philanthropic work which benefited the arts, global famine and underprivileged youth. His reach truly extends to all corners of the globe! Quincy once said, ‘Music is the soul of the universe. It connects us all on a level that words alone cannot reach. ‘May his wisdom and joy remain with us always. – Celine xx…”

Dion also shared a few photos of herself working on projects with Jones, including a pic of the two music titans from February 2010, when Dion took part in the recording session for “We Are the World 25 for Haiti,” to benefit the island nation in the wake of a devastating earthquake. The session was held at the Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood.

Trending on Billboard

Another photo the singer shared featured Dion with Jones and Humberto Gatica from a Los Angeles recording session in 2006, when Dion recorded the song “I Knew I Loved You,” the theme song from Once Upon a Time in America.

Jones was a 28-time Grammy Award winner (and 80-time nominee), known for his work in producing and arranging on timeless albums, including Michael Jackson’s 1979 album Off The Wall, 1982’s Thriller, and 1987’s Bad. He also guided the recording sessions for the all-star charity single “We Are the World” in 1985; the song rose to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and featured artists including Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner and Kenny Rogers.

Prior to his pop prominence, Jones worked with Frank Sinatra beginning in 1958. He worked on Sinatra’s 1964 album It Might As Well Be Swing, with the Count Basie Orchestra. That project included Sinatra’s rendition of “Fly Me to the Moon.”

But Jones’ influence and work expanded far beyond solely working with music artists. He also acquired the rights to the novel The Color Purple, casting Oprah Winfrey in the book’s 1985 film adaptation. Jones scored Sidney Lumet’s 1964 film The Pawnbroker, and soon composed the music for the 1967 films In the Heat of the Night and In Cold Blood. He composed the theme songs for series including Sanford and Son, The Bill Cosby Show (1969-1971), and Ironside. In 1977, he won a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding music composition for a series for his work on Roots: Part 1. Jones was also an executive producer on series including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (starring Will Smith) and LL Cool J’s In the House. Jones also founded the hip-hop magazine Vibe.

Patrick Mahomes’ Mom Shows MAGA Colors With Viral Video

The mother of NFL superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes displayed her support for Donald Trump in a viral video.

On Monday night (November 4), the National Football League’s current Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ mother, Randi Mahomes, made it plain that she’s voting for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump by wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat matching her Chiefs sweater with gold lettering against a red background. “Make America great again. Let’s do it!,” she says to the camera, adding a cheer and a little dance at the end.

https://x.com/FakePearBear/status/1853604720624963807

The video was shot in a private suite at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs’ home field presumably as fans were filing into the stadium. Conservative media outlet Outkick and pundit Clay Travis shared the video with their followers in a post on X, formerly Twitter, noting the timing of it on the eve of the final day of the presidential election. The video was more striking as pop superstar Taylor Swift, who has publicly endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, was present at the game to cheer on her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

14-time Grammy Award winner Swift was a source of heavy conversation after the endorsement as Brittany Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes’ wife, has shared her support for Donald Trump in the past by liking social media posts from the former president. After receiving criticism online, she posted an Instagram Story in August blasting those commenters. saying: “I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult you have to have some deep-rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.” Trump would later express his thanks in a Truth Social post. “I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me,” he wrote.

As for Patrick Mahomes, he has shied away from sharing who he supports in the presidential election, declining to publicly endorse a candidate during a press conference at the beginning of the current NFL season. He did, however, ask his fans and others to “do their own research, and then make the best decision for them and their family.”

Timbaland Is Standing With Suno. What Does That Mean For Creators?

In the future, every technology company will have a celebrity advisor.

The latest is Timbaland, who is working with the generative AI company Suno on “day-to-day product development and strategic creative direction,” according to a late-October announcement. Timbaland is a hip-hop and R&B icon — a star songwriter, an innovative producer and a compelling performer. (His performance at the June Songwriters Hall of Fame gala was stunning.) As much of a genius as Timbaland is, however, it seems reasonable to wonder where he’s going to find the time for software development.

It also seems reasonable to wonder whether Suno hired him for more than his vision. As Suno faces controversy and litigation from rightsholders arguing that AI companies need to license the music they use to train their software, Timbaland may be there to make a case that this doesn’t matter that much. (Neither Suno nor a representative for Timbaland would comment on the nature of Timbaland’s deal.) In other words, Timbaland is there to do for Suno what Limp Bizkit and Chuck D tried to do for Napster — position the company with users but against the majority of creators and rightsholders.

It seems like ancient history now, but within a month after Metallica sued Napster in April 2000, Limp Bizkit and Chuck D stood with the company against the band, Dr. Dre (who sued a few weeks later) and most of the music business. Limp Bizkit played a few weeks of Napster-sponsored free shows, and Bizkit frontman Fred Durst said the company offered fans a great way to sample albums before buying them. Around the same time, Chuck D wrote a New York Times op-ed supporting Napster and announced that he was working with the company on a contest. The company’s subsequent bankruptcy filing contained a reference to a payment to Chuck D for “the cost of speaking engagements and support,” according to Joseph Menn’s excellent All the Rave: The Rise and Fall of Shawn Fanning’s Napster.

Trending on Billboard

Then, and perhaps now, the idea was to position a startup backed by venture capitalists as being on the side of artists. Suno is “the best tool of the future,” Timbaland has said. “It allows you to get any idea in your imagination out of your head.” Suno has already positioned itself as a disruptor, arguing in its response to the major label lawsuit that “What the major record labels really don’t want is competition.” Maybe. But the lawsuit is over Suno’s alleged ingestion of copyrighted recordings in order to train its software.

This kind of maneuvering isn’t so unusual. For decades, Silicon Valley has introduced innovations with a predictable strategy: Ask forgiveness instead of permission, then take political issues directly to users. This strategy, as much as the technology involved, allowed Uber and Airbnb to grow so big that it can be hard to remember that they are basically high-tech ways to get around local taxi and hotel regulations. Uber and Airbnb are essentially in the business of regulatory arbitrage — they face less regulation than their legacy-company competitors, so they often come out ahead. And they were able to stay in business at least partly because they very quickly grew too big to fail. No politician wants to be known for making it harder to book a car or a hotel.

Suno and other generative AI platforms are less problematic, because they would compete more fairly with other tools to make music. The only question is whether the company should compensate rightsholders — including, presumably, Timbaland himself. The lawsuit against Suno will get complicated — one of these AI cases could end up going to the Supreme Court. But creators who want to be compensated for the use of their work aren’t against AI music tools any more than Metallica was against digital distribution — they want to get paid for the use of their work.

At least one creator will almost certainly make a lot of money from Suno: Timbaland. And although it might look bad for him to be on the other side of the issue from most musicians, this has been a reliable way to make money. One of the big winners of the Early Digital Music Age — the 1999 introduction of Napster to the 2011 U.S. launch of Spotify — was Alanis Morissette.

Yes, really.

When MP3.com sponsored one of her tours, in 1999, Morissette invested $217,355 into early-stage shares of the company, which — well, it was never entirely clear how it would actually make money, but that address was really hot at the time. She made more than a million dollars selling only some of the stock.

At the same time, it’s worth remembering how these moves look years later. From a 2024 perspective, it seems smart that Metallica and Dr. Dre sued Napster, because that company’s demise paved the way for licensed, commercial streaming services. Cracker frontman David Lowery and Taylor Swift can also say they were on the right side of history when it comes to creators’ rights. In retrospect, Limp Bizkit and Chuck D seem a bit naive. Years from now, Timbaland, as talented as he is, may seem the same.
