All the 2024 Latin Grammy Performances Ranked

All 16 performances shined, but there were standouts. Here, we rank them from 16 to 1.

The Latin Grammys celebrated their 25th anniversary November 14 at Miami’s Kaseya Center with an award show that was full of impressive musical moments, from the premiere of Pitbull’s new single “Now Or Never” – a throwback track featuring Jon Bon Jovi — to the medley featuring rising female stars Kali Uchis, Elena Rose and Emilia.

It was an eclectic night with plenty of risk-taking. Very new artists, like Darumas and The Warning (who both happen to be all-female groups) were given solo slots, and major, established artists like Marc Anthony and Alejandro Fernández were willing to step into milestone collaborative moments. Marc Anthony was part of a salsa medley that was a highlight of the evening while Fernández joined David Bisbal, Carlos Rivera, Leonel García and Reik in an homage to iconic Mexican singers.

Person of the Year Carlos Vives got his major Latin Grammy moment with his band La Provincia and plenty of Colombian friends, and while the evening’s big winners were decidedly vintage (Juan Luis Guerra, Jorge Drexler), the show asserted its now factor from the onset, with an opening number hosted by DJ Khaled, who presented performances by three contemporary names: Quevedo, Eladio Carrión and Myke Towers.

While there were no low points in the show, which aired live on Univision, there were certainly highlights among the 15 performances. As is a Billboard tradition after major award shows, we have ranked all performances, from 16 to 1, beginning with the lowest to the highest ranked. Regardless of your personal ranking, our collective enjoyment of this show was unanimous.

Spotify Stock Jumps 15%, Live Nation Shares Also Gain After Q3 Earnings

Spotify is on such a hot streak that the streaming company nearly reached a $100 billion market capitalization this week. After the company’s third-quarter earnings showed cost-cutting has led to record profitability, shares peaked at a new all-time high of $489.69 on Thursday (Nov. 14), briefly putting its market capitalization above $98 billion. However, the stock fell on Friday (Nov. 15) to a final closing price of $458.32, valuing the company at $92.04 billion. While the stock was still up 14.5%, that marked a bit of a letdown from its previous high.

During the height of the pandemic, Spotify benefitted from a rush into streaming stocks as consumers spent more time with audio and visual media. Investors were also attracted to its push into podcasts, which provided an opportunity to improve upon the margins of its core music service. But investors eventually grew tired of Spotify’s growth-over-profitability mantra, sending the company’s share price from $387 in February 2021 to under $70 in November 2021. But a focus on cost-cutting and expansion into audiobooks helped bring investors back; Spotify shares gained 138% in 2023 and have already increased 144% in 2024.

Trending on Billboard

After delivering solid results and showing investors a pathway to greater profitability, Guggenheim increased its price target for Spotify to $500 from $420 and raised its estimate for 2025 operating profit to 2.5 billion euros ($2.63 billion) from 2.1 billion euros ($2.21 billion). Analysts cited management’s confidence in usage growth and ability to raise prices and further improve margins. Morgan Stanley raised Spotify to $460 from $430, also citing the company’s ability to further raise prices and management’s “commitment to financial discipline and driving profitability.” At JPMorgan, analysts upped Spotify to $530 from $425 for the aforementioned reasons, in addition to the stock’s coming inclusion in the MSCI World Index on Nov. 25.

A bevy of analysts also increased their price targets for Live Nation following the company’s earnings report on Monday (Nov. 11), which showed that the promoter achieved a record adjusted operating income in the third quarter. Among them: Rosenblatt Securities ($146 from $123), Goldman Sachs ($148 from $132), Benchmark ($145 from $108), Evercore ISI ($150 from $110), Oppenheimer ($155 from $120) and Wolfe Research ($152 from $125). Live Nation shares finished the week at $129.00, up 4.9%, and reached a new intraday high of $130.83 on Friday.

Spotify’s big gain was the primary reason the Billboard Global Music Index grew 5.8% to 2,162.50 despite just six of its 20 stocks finishing the week in positive territory. The float-adjusted, unweighted index measures the aggregate market values of the 20 member companies; Spotify is the most valuable company on the index and is more than twice as valuable as the next company, Universal Music Group (UMG). The week’s other five gainers are among the index’s largest companies: Live Nation, CTS Eventim, JYP Entertainment, HYBE and SM Entertainment all have market capitalizations exceeding $1 billion.

Stock markets hit a post-election hangover this week that stalled the gains seen after Donald Trump won the presidential election on Nov. 5. In the United States, the Nasdaq fell 3.1% and the S&P 500 dropped 2.1%. The United Kingdom’s FTSE 100 lost just 0.1%. South Korea’s KOSPI composite index fell 5.6%. China’s Shanghai Composite Index lost 3.5%.

Despite the KOSPI’s decline, K-pop stocks — which have recovered ground in the second half of the year and now have a collective year-to-date deficit of 20.2% — were up across the board. JYP Entertainment gained 8.2%, HYBE improved 3.2%, SM Entertainment added 2.8% and YG Entertainment rose 2.7%.

On the live front, Sphere Entertainment Co. fell 8.6% after its latest earnings showed a slowdown in revenue at its Sphere division, with Macquarie lowering the company’s price target to $45 from $47. And at MSG Entertainment (MSGE), shares dropped 6.8% to $40.00 after Bernstein reduced its MSGE price target to $44 from $45 earlier in the week.

Over at radio, Cumulus Media fell 19.3% to $0.71 after it reportedly conducted layoffs at stations in Central Pennsylvania, Indianapolis, Detroit and San Francisco as part of broader job cuts ahead of the holiday season — all on the heels of recent layoffs at competitor iHeartRadio. Elsewhere music streamer LiveOne dropped 12.4% to $0.78 this week.

Elmo Has an Awkwardly Funny ‘Chicken Shop’ Playdate With Amelia Dimoldenberg

Elmo’s traveled from Sesame Street all the way to a chicken shop in London to go on a date with Amelia Dimoldenberg.

The Chicken Shop Date creator/stae has had dates with many famous faces in her 10-year journey to find love at the chicken shop — most recently, Andrew Garfield. (If you’re one to read the comments, you’ll know fans of both have been convinced he’s the one.)

From the music world, Burna Boy, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Cher, Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Matty Healy, Rema, Rosalia, Ed Sheeran and SZA are among the many talented artists who’ve been to the chicken shop with Dimoldenberg. British rapper Ghettz was her first date, in 2014, for the series that’s become a short-form comedy hit on YouTube.

You might say she went for a different type for the latest episode of Chicken Shop Date.

Dimoldenberg invited Elmo, the lovable puppet from Sesame Street, out for a playdate version of one of her typical dates. She met with him at the chicken shop only to learn he doesn’t eat chicken, that he can match her deadpan delivery, and that he also has an innate talent for making the moment awkward.

“Does Elmo like nuggets?” she asks to open the episode, which dropped Friday (Nov. 15) on YouTube.

“Well, Elmo does vegetarian nuggets,” Elmo replies.

“Oh, you’re a vegetarian?” Amelia asks.

“Well, Elmo knows lots of chickens, you know. Elmo has friends that are chickens,” he says.

Elmo dishes the truth to his date about hugs (ask first), getting out of your head, and learning a word called “patience.” He also shouts out Beyoncé in hopes of bringing her to both Sesame Street and Chicken Shop Date — a move that Dimoldenberg warns him is desperate, before admitting that she’s desperate to be getting advice about romance from Elmo.

“What do you think Cookie Monster would make of chicken shops?” she wonders at another point.

“A mess,” Elmo says.

“Right,” says Amelia.

While the BTS superstar’s participation in the album’s production is evident all the way through the final track “I will come to you,” a poignant ballad he wrote for ARMY fans, Jin also enlisted a cast of global collaborators to bring his Happy feelings to life. Snoop Dogg Recalls Telling Sexyy Red ‘You Got Star Power’ When They First Met

Snoop Dogg is all aboard the Sexyy Red train.

While chatting with Vibe in a video posted Wednesday (Nov. 13), the 53-year-old hip-hop icon shared the praise he gave the “Get It Sexyy” artist when they first met. “‘You got star power. I love you,’” he recalled telling her. “She said, ‘Unc, you real as a motherf—er.’”

“I said, ‘Yeah, I f— with you, cuz,’” Snoop continued. “We partying, having a good time.”

Snoop’s remarks come the same day Sexyy posted a video of herself dancing at an outdoor party with the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” artist, both of them singing along to her 2023 single “SkeeYee” as the St. Louis star smoked a cigar. “I’m wit snoop yal!!” she captioned the clip.

As Snoop told Vibe, he loves hanging out with younger rappers and passing on words of wisdom. “I said, ‘One thing about me, I’m from the old generation but I don’t hate on y’all,’” he continued of meeting Sexyy. “‘I may critique, but when I see y’all, I’m gonna give you love and I’m gonna tell you face-to-face, ‘You’re doing an amazing job, here’s some things you can do better.’”

Though he self-identifies as “the old generation,” Snoop is still churning out hits. On Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart dated Nov. 16, his and Dr. Dre’s “Gorgeous” collaboration with Jhene Aiko debuted at No. 29 — marking the first time in 13 years the two men have appeared on the listing together.

The track comes ahead of Snoop’s upcoming Dre-produced album Missionary, which is slated for a Dec. 13 release. It’ll mark the rapper’s first LP since 2022’s BODR.

Kodak Black Receives Sobering Advice From Gillie & Wallo: Watch

Kodak Black has been in the news lately due to his unsettling appearance with streamer Kai Cenat, so Gillie and Wallo of the podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game decided to pay the enigmatic rapper a visit.

One portion of the 45-minute interview making the rounds is where Wallo — who turned his life around after serving 20 years in prison — is giving him one of his famous motivational talks. “Look at me, man,” he said as he held Kodak’s hand while looking him in the eyes. “Listen: You special. Don’t ever doubt yourself, and you got them babies counting on you. Now, there’s gonna be times where you gonna doubt yourself, you gonna be in pain, but them babies counting on you. You got to be here.”

Trending on Billboard

He added: “And I’m telling you that because a lot of people get around you and they see your success… A lot of people need you and they ‘yes man’ you. I ain’t here to ‘yes man’ you. You know me, every time we connect, you know I got love for you, not because I need you. I got love for you because you’re a young cat. And I was young. Gil was young. Live, live! And I’m telling you that because you see that love that that lady gave you? You see how you light up when I talk about your babies? Live. These people want to laugh, they want to joke, they want to criticize. They don’t know your pain. I don’t know your pain, but I know one thing. Them babies counting on you, your family counting on you, and you’re talented.”

Wallo then told Kodak not to take what he’s accomplished for granted and to be a positive example to his children. “A lot of brothers ain’t here no more that had the opportunity that you had,” he began. “Some of them in prison, some of them dead, and they looking at us like we just some n—as that don’t give a f—. We’re junkies, we’re criminals. That’s what they think of us. We got to learn how to change the narrative, brother. You got a lot of young people watching. … Don’t hurt yourself, brother.”

Kodak has faced a slew of legal issues and has battled addiction over the years. His erratic behavior during his visit with Cenat drew some concern from his peers and fans. One positive, though, was Rihanna referencing his freestyle about being offered sex while waiting for a bus. Many blamed the subject matter on the rapper being high, but he was actually referring to an old popular YouTube video titled “Sex?…I’m Just Waiting For The Bus…..(Haitian Vs. Hooker.)

Billboard Live Music Summit Photos: Olivia Rodrigo, John Summit, Louis Messina & More Touring Titans

The information-packed day concluded with a Superstar Q&A with Billboard cover star Olivia Rodrigo.

On Thursday (Nov. 15), the Billboard Live Music Summit returned after a four-year hiatus. Taking over the 1 Hotel in West Hollywood, Calif., the day of programming took place in collaboration with AEG Presents and Live Nation.

After kicking things off with an opening panel titled Trends in Ticketing: The Latest In Innovation and Tools, sponsored by AXS, Billboard‘s Katie Bain moderated the first of two artist-focused conversations. During a discussion titled Inside the Rise of John Summit, Bain spoke with the fast-rising DJ and his manager, Holt Harmon, about how Summit’s ability “to be like a chameleon” has aided in his take-off. “It allows him to do different things and not get pigeonholed,” said Harmon.

Other highlights included the packed Agents Power Panel: A New Era of Uncertainty, moderated by Billboard‘s Jason Lipshutz; a conversation between Live Nation’s Arthur Fogel and Lady Gaga’s manager Bobby Campbell titled Inside Global Touring Today; The Power Players conversation with Executive of the Year Louis Messina, moderated by Billboard‘s Melinda Newman; and The Life and Times of Disco Donnie: A Live Retrospective, moderated by Billboard‘s Dave Brooks. Plus, L-Acoustics sponsored a panel titled The Immersive Experience: The Future of Sound, Visual and Interactive Programming at Festivals.

The information-packed day concluded with a Superstar Q&A with Billboard cover star Olivia Rodrigo, who was crowned Touring Artist of the Year for her sensational Guts World Tour, which sold over 1.4 million tickets and brought in $184.6 million dollars – making it one of the biggest pop tours of the decade. In her conversation, she spoke about how she made her second album GUTS with a live show in mind, saying she knew she wanted to deliver rock-inflected songs prime for screaming along to. Because of that, a favorite of hers to perform on the tour has been “All-American Bitch,” which famously includes a mid-song howl that Rodrigo described as “cathartic.”

Rodrigo also discussed her Fund 4 Good, which supports girls’ education and women’s health, and teased her post-tour plans, of which she said: “I’m so excited to just rot on the couch and eat so much food.”
