Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce & Simone Biles to Join ‘The Voice’ as Playoffs Advisors

The Voice has revealed new playoffs advisors, and it’s getting an extra shot of country music in the process.

The Voice coach Reba McEntire will welcome fellow country artist Lainey Wilson as the playoff advisor for her team. Meanwhile, Michael Bublé will welcome Carly Pearce as the playoffs advisor for his team. Snoop Dogg will welcome 11-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles as the playoff advisor for his team.

Wilson previously performed her hit “Hang Tight Honey” on the season finale of The Voice earlier in the year; at that time, McEntire surprised Wilson with an invitation to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. At last week’s CMA Awards, Wilson took home her third female vocalist of the year honor and co-hosted the CMA Awards alongside Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning.

Notably, The Voice isn’t the only place music fans can find Bublé and three-time CMA Awards winner Pearce working together; they recently released the new holiday duet “Maybe This Christmas.”

“I wrote a Christmas song for people that might not love Christmas because they’re hurting, because they’re vulnerable, because it’s a tough time for a lot of people,” Bublé said in an Instagram video. “I wanted to write something to give them hope.”

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Biles added four more Olympic medals to her tally. Biles and Snoop Dogg were also seen at the Olympics together, watching the women’s track and field events.

The Voice airs this week on Monday night (Nov. 25) at 8 p.m. ET and Tuesday night (Nov. 26) at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and streaming on Peacock.

Lana Del Rey Announces New Album ‘The Right Person Will Stay’: Here’s When It Arrives

Lana Del Rey has announced a new album titled The Right Person Will Stay, set for release in May 2025.

“So grateful that my 13 tracks came together with my beautiful work between Luke, Jack, and Drew Erickson amongst others,” the singer-songwriter wrote on Instagram alongside the May 21 release date. “Happy for you to hear a few songs coming up before Stagecoach. Starting with Henry. Love always.”

Del Rey’s Instagram post tagged producers/musicians including Jack Antonoff and Zachary Dawes (both of whom worked on her 2023 album Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd) and Luke Laird (known for his work with Kacey Musgraves, Eric Church and more).

The singer/songwriter teased a country album titled Lasso in January at the Billboard x NMPA Songwriter Awards ahead of this year’s Grammys, initially noting that the album would release in September. “We’re going country!” she said at the time. “It’s happening.” She also previewed a dreamy, guitar-forward song, presumably titled “Henry, Come On,” that same month, which could be the “Henry” she references in her new IG caption.

Trending on Billboard

In August, Del Rey told Vogue, “All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana, unless it’s an album like Honeymoon which has a jazz flair, so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure.”

The upcoming album will follow last year’s Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, which peaked at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard 200. To date, she has two top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including 2013’s “Summertime Sadness,” and her 2022 feature on Taylor Swift’s “Snow on the Beach.”

In addition to new music, Del Rey is set to embark on a stadium tour of U.K. and Ireland shows, starting in June 2025. The tour will launch June 23 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in Wales and will make stops in Glasgow, Liverpool, Dublin and more, before concluding July 3 at London’s Wembley Stadium. Del Rey is set to play Stagecoach in April in Indio, California.

Drake Takes Shots At Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd & Steve Lacy During Stream With xQc

Kendrick Lamar is still on a victory lap following the release of his latest album, GNX. Meanwhile, his favorite punching bag, Drake, was on a Kick stream throwing jabs.

Even Stevie Wonder can see that Kendrick Lamar has really hurt Drake’s ego. Over the weekend, Drake appeared on Canadian streamer xQc’s Kick channel, and he used the opportunity to talk sh*t about his opps, and even himself.

Showing that he’s still butthurt about the success of Lamar’s diss record towards him, the 6 God sent a jab at the Compton rapper while introducing himself to watchers. “I’m here — mind, body and soul fully intact, in case you were wondering. You need facts to take me out; fairytales won’t do it,” Drizzy said.

Drake’s tone is a response to Kendrick Lamar’s claims on his numerous diss records, including the hit record “Not Like Us’ that the “Take Care” crafter has a penchant for engaging in inappropriate behavior with underage girls, keeps the company of pedophiles around him and also has a secret daughter.

Drake also had time for singer Steve Lacy, calling him a “fragile” opp, and then The Weeknd, telling the popular streamer to turn off his music when the song “Starboy” came on.

Kendrick Lamar & Steve Lacy Both Had A Response For Drake

Drizzy’s salty behavior did get a response from both Lacy and Lamar. Lacy reacted with a series of Instagram posts, while Lamar reacted in a text exchange shared by his friend Reli.

In the screenshot of the conversation, Reli jokingly said to K.Dot, “You done turned blood into a streamer on Phillies [laughing face emojis],” and Lamar responding with several laughing emojis.

“That’s a damn shame,” Reli continued with Lamar asking, “He tripping??!”

Reli continues, “Blood don’t won’t [sic] no smoke Philly gang,” before covering the rest of the conversation.

Social media has been clowning  Drake for his behavior on the stream. You can see those reactions in the gallery below.

How Kendrick Lamar Enlisted Mariachi Singer Deyra Barrera for ‘GNX’: ‘Everything He Makes Is Magic’

Many were taken aback when they played Kendrick Lamar‘s surprise album GNX and the first voice they hear is a woman singing in Spanish: “I felt your presence here last night, and we started to cry.”

Well, that voice belongs to 49-year-old mariachi singer Deyra Barrera from Tucson, Arizona. Barrera became good friends with Mexican baseball player Fernando Valenzuela over the years after meeting at Tepeyac Café in L.A., according to Rolling Stone. So when the Dodger great died in October just as the L.A. ball club was set to meet the Yankees in the World Series, the mariachi singer was tapped to sing in honor of her dear friend before Game 1. Lamar happened to be in attendance, and the rest is history.

“I was in tears, singing for my friend who died, at a packed stadium,” Barrera told Rolling Stone. “And el señor Lamar was there. He listened to me sing.”

Lamar, who was fresh off seemingly defeating Drake in one of the most notable rap battles in the history of the genre and being picked to headline the Super Bowl halftime show, invited Barrera to the studio. “I had no idea what I would record. I make mariachi, not rap,” she said. “They told me they wanted my style, my voice. I had no idea how it was going to end up on the record.” Adding, “He welcomed me and was so kind. He said, ‘You have such a powerful voice. Thanks for coming.’ I had no idea what to say,” she said of meeting the Compton rapper at the studio. “Lamar is a genius, a maestro. Everything he makes is magic.”

She also mentioned that she woke up to a text from a friend telling her that her voice opens up “Wacced Out Murals,” the album’s intro track. “My skin gets goosebumps because all of this happened so quickly for me,” she said. “I want to cry. This is taking me by surprise.”

There’s no telling what Kendrick might perform when he plays Super Bowl 59 in February, but she hopes to get a call from him again. “I know Kendrick is going to do the Super Bowl halftime show. … Imagine if he invited me to sing with him? That would be incredible,” she said. “I hope people know that it’s Deyra Barrera who is on these songs.”

Make sure to stream her music as only a couple of them are available on DSPs.

Ice T Shows ‘Respect’ to Kendrick Lamar After His ‘Power’ Album Reference

The clip features K. Dot dancing in a blue hoodie and fitted cap accompanied by a 105 Freeway traffic sign taken from the road, before he’s joined by dancers hitting routines choreographed by Charm La’Donna. Throughout the visual, more characters representing the West Coast join him on the scene.

At one point, he makes a reference to Ice T’s second studio album, 1988’s Power, as a woman in a white thong swimsuit and red heels stands facing the wall holding a shotgun — just like on the album’s cover.

Upon seeing the “Squabble Up” video, Ice T took to X (formerly Twitter) to write, “Respect,” along with a crown emoji. He also added on Instagram, “The ? @kendricklamar gave me some love… Now YOU have the POWER.”

“Squabble Up” was initially previewed by Lamar over the summer, with the snippet tentatively titled “Broccoli.” Sounwave and Jack Antonoff are credited as co-producers of the infectious track.

The 12-track project is named after the Buick Regal model and features collaborations with stars including Lefty Gunplay, Dody 6, Wallie the Sensei, Roddy Ricch, Siete7x, AzChike, Hitta J3, YoungThreat, Peysoh and SZA — who appears on the tracks “Luther” and “Gloria.”

More Latins Than Ever Know the Term ‘Latinx’ — And They Still Don’t Like It

Back in 2019, only 23% of the U.S. Latin population was familiar with the term “Latinx,” according to an extensive study published in 2021 by the Pew Research Center.

Five years and one pandemic later, awareness for the term has doubled: Today, 47% of U.S. Latins say they are aware of the word “Latinx,” according to a new Pew report published in September. But most of them still don’t like it.

Only 4% of Latino adults say they have used Latinx to describe themselves, a fraction above the 3% who said the same in 2019.

Trending on Billboard

More telling, 75% of Latinos who have heard of the term say it should not be used to describe the Hispanic or Latino population, according to the new report. In fact, the report concludes, Latinx is “broadly unpopular among Latino adults who have heard of it.”

And the dislike has grown. Five years ago, when Pew published its first research on the recognition and use of Latinx, it found that 65% of adults familiar with the term rejected it. In other words, as awareness of the word Latinx went up, its embrace by the U.S. Latinos has gone down.

Why is that?

As Billboard reported back in 2021, when Pew published the surprising findings of its 2019 research, Latinx is a term born from good intentions. Spawned as part of the global movement to use gender neutral pronouns, it was seen as a term of inclusivity in Spanish, a language where many words are differentiated by gender (Spanish, for example, does not have an equivalent of the gender-neutral “the;” instead it uses “la” and “el” to refer to feminine and masculine respectively). The term gained popularity on college campuses and in marketing materials, and by 2018, Merriam Webster added it to its dictionary — where it defines the word as “of, relating to, or marked by Latin American heritage.”

As an inclusive word, Latinx made some inroads. According to the Pew study, 40% of the LGBQT community says the term should be used to identify the Latino or Hispanic population. But a majority in the LGBQT community, 60%, still says it should not.

All other segments of the population dislike the term to an even bigger degree. Those who say it shouldn’t be used include immigrants (77%), U.S. born (74%), English dominant (74%), bilingual (75%), young adults between 18-29 (69%) and even those with college degrees (74%).

The antipathy may be the result of “Latinx” feeling like an imposed term divorced, from the people it’s supposed to describe. There is no way to adequately pronounce the word in Spanish, a fact Merriam Webster itself acknowledges in some of the articles it published about the word, writing: “More than likely, there was little consideration for how it was supposed to be pronounced when it was created.”

This is a problem. For one, those who don’t speak English simply don’t know how to pronounce the word; in Spanish, the x ix pronounced eh-quis, not ehks. Moreover, it would appear the word was not conceived by, or for, Spanish speakers, marking a clear demarcation for those who identify as Latin to begin with.

The dislike has been duly noted in many sectors. LULAC, one of the country’s oldest Hispanic rights associations dropped the term from its communications in 2021, saying it was “very unliked” by most Latins. And some government officials have gone as far as to propose the word be banned from official government communication. In the wake of the presidential election this month, the validity or not of the word Latinx was again brought up, but all the handwringing and dramatic reaction feels like overkill.

Truth is, there is no consensus among U.S. Latins on how to describe themselves — which in itself, is a reflection of the vast plurality of the population. According to the Pew study, the majority of respondents, 52%, prefer “Hispanic,” followed by 29% who prefer “Latin” or “Latino” and just 2% preferring Latinx. “Latine,” another gender inclusive adjective that is much easier to pronounce, is nevertheless lesser known; only 18% of respondents had heard the term.

When it comes to “Latin” music, which is defined as music predominantly in Spanish, most artists identify as “Latin,” “Latinos” or “Latinas.” But Spaniards identify as Spaniards, even if they’re doing “Latin” music.

Which is all to say, how individuals or groups identify themselves should be up to those individuals or groups, and certainly not to outside commercial and political interests to ban, impose or even give an opinion about.

As far as Billboard goes, Latin music will continue to be referred to as “Latin.” And artists who make music in Spanish will continue to be referred in whatever terminology they prefer.

Overwhelmingly, their term of choice is “Latin.”

ATEEZ, Jin & ENHYPEN Albums All Land in Billboard 200 Top 10 — A First for K-Pop

On the latest Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Nov. 30), three K-pop (Korean pop) albums are in the top 10 concurrently for the first time.

ATEEZ’s GOLDEN HOUR: Part.2 debuts at No. 1, Jin’s Happy debuts at No. 4 and ENHYPEN’s ROMANCE: UNTOLD re-enters the chart at No. 7 following an expanded reissue (after earlier debuting and peaking at No. 2 in July).

In total this year, of the 97 different albums that have ranked in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 (through the Nov. 30 chart), 17 of them were K-pop titles. Three of those topped the chart, and all debuted atop the list: GOLDEN HOUR: Part.2, Stray Kids’ ATE (Aug. 3 chart) and TWICE’s With YOU-th (March 9 chart).

Also notably, earlier in 2024, on the Aug. 3-dated Billboard 200, K-pop held Nos. 1 and 2 for the first time. That week, Stray Kids’ ATE and Jimin’s MUSE debuted at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S., across all genres, based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Nov. 30, 2024-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Drake Accuses UMG & Spotify of Scheme to ‘Artificially Inflate’ Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’

Drake has initiated legal action against Universal Music Group and Spotify over allegations that the two companies conspired to artificially inflate the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

In a filing Monday (Nov. 25) in Manhattan court, Drake’s Frozen Moments LLC accused UMG of launching an illegal “scheme” involving bots, payola and other methods to pump up Lamar’s song — a track that savagely attacked Drake amid an ongoing feud between the two stars.

“UMG did not rely on chance, or even ordinary business practices,” attorneys for Drake’s company write. “It instead launched a campaign to manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves.”

Trending on Billboard

Drake’s attorneys accuse UMG of violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, the federal “RICO” statute often used in criminal cases against organized crime. They also allege deceptive business practices and false advertising under New York state law.

The court filings are a remarkable twist in the high-profile beef between the two stars, which saw Drake and Kendrick exchange stinging diss tracks over a period of months earlier this year. That such a dispute would spill into business litigation seemed almost unthinkable in the world of hip-hop.

It also represents a stunning rift between Drake and UMG, where the star has spent his entire career, first through signing a deal with Lil Wayne’s Young Money imprint, which was distributed by Republic Records, and then signing directly to Republic.

Lamar, meanwhile, has also spent his entire career associated with UMG, first through the TDE imprint, which was distributed by Interscope, and more recently through his own company pgLang, which he licenses through Interscope.

In technical terms, Monday’s filing is not yet a full lawsuit, but a so-called “pre-action” petition — a procedure under New York law that aims to secure information before filing a lawsuit. Spotify declined to comment. UMG did not immediately return a request for comment.

This is a developing story, and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Jimmy Humilde on His First Trip to London & Paris | Behind the Photo | Billboard

Jimmy Humilde shares his experience going to London and Paris for the first time, his love for gold and more!

Jimmy Humilde:
What’s up? My name is Jimmy Humilde, and we’re Behind the Photo right here with Billboard. Oh, no, all right. This picture really explains a lot. Um, we just got a new jet, so that was pretty cool, you know, but we decided to go on our first golf trip. So I just started playing golf about a little less than a year ago, and we decided to take our own first golf golf trip to Las Vegas. And of course, we had to be dressed, you know, for the occasion. So straight from the airplane, we got to Vegas and went straight to the golf course, me and my business partners and a couple of buddies that that we just … We’re die-hard golfers now, you know, golfing all the time.

So this is what this photo explains. This is actually one of my favorite photos. It’s cool. This is me walking. And actually, I didn’t even know they took the picture. You know, it was pretty cool because one of my staff guys is also a photographer, so he took the pic and showed it to me. And I was like, “Oh, this is cool.” I wanted to see the two-story bus rolling in London. So this was my first time in London, and it was pretty cool.

Oh, this is one of the most recent pics. This is pretty cool.

Keep watching for more!
