Future Mourns His Friend in ‘Lost My Dog’ Music Video & Donates to D.A.R.E.

Future laments over the loss of his friend to fentanyl in the new “Lost My Dog” music video that he dropped on Thursday (Jan. 23).

Henri Alexander Levy directed the black-and-white accompanying visual for the poignant penultimate track from Future’s Billboard 200-topping Mixtape Pluto last year. Future, who typically conceals his face behind a dark pair of sunglasses, exposes his eyes and raw expressions while roaming around a candlelit room. “Lookin’ at his texts, he was battlin’ with depression/ I should’ve seen the signs as soon as I received the message, yeah,” he raps after the chorus.

The three-time Grammy-winning rapper also announced today that he is donating via his non-profit Freewishes Foundation to D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), highlighting its anti-drug educational programs. His label Epic Records will also be making a donation, and fans are encouraged to join the cause by visiting dare.org/donate.

Over the years, the Dirty Sprite MC has become alarmingly aware of the impact the drug-related lyrical themes of his music has had on his fans and other artists. In his 2019 Rolling Stone profile, Future revealed how “bothered” he felt when Juice WRLD — whom Future collaborated with on the 2018 mixtape WRLD On Drugs before he died in 2019 from an accidental overdose of oxycodone and codeine — told him his music inspired him to try lean as a child. “When he told me that, I was like ‘Oh sh–. What the f–k have I done?’” It really bothered me. It bothered me a lot. More than that I thought it would bother me when he told me that,” he said at the time. “I wasn’t aware of that influence, but now I’m aware of how much it influenced. It’s like, this sh– really f–ked me up for a minute. It’s all I could think about. Like, ‘Da–, what have I done? What have I done to other people? What I did to myself?’”

Clipse’s No Malice Says ‘Not Like Us’ Is His Favorite Song at the Moment

The Brothers Clipse were at Paris Fashion Week for Pharrell‘s Fall/Winter 2025 Louis Vuitton Men’s collection runway show dipped in custom LV and were stopped by social media style account @thepeoplegallery_.

First, No Malice was asked for styling advice, with the Virginia rapper giving a simple answer: “Being comfortable, being you.” The brothers were then asked what this specific collection means to them and Pharrell, with Pusha T answering that “It shows the world the legacy and the influence that Nigo and Pharrell have together.” Finally, Malice was asked by host Maurice Kamara what his favorite song is right now to which he replied, “‘Not Like Us‘” after thinking about it for a bit and walked off with a smirk.

Trending on Billboard

The Clipse have a long history when it comes to Drake and his Young Money crew dating back to the mid-2000s when the feud began with Lil Wayne wearing Japanese streetwear line BAPE, which was popularized by Pharrell and the brothers Stateside.

The group is planning to make a return this year after a 16-year hiatus with their last album together being 2009’s Til the Casket Drops. They unofficially released one of their new songs “Chains & Whips” (a song that’s rumored to feature Dot) in 2024 during Pharrell’s first LV runway show and Pusha confirmed that Let God Sort Em Out is finished and that the album is produced entirely by Pharrell during a conversation with journalist Ari Melber.

There isn’t a release date yet, but it should be hitting DSPs sometime this year.

ROSÉ of BLACKPINK Shreds Live Rock Performance of ‘3am’ at Channel Street Skatepark: Watch

ROSÉ totally shredded at the skatepark recently — but not on a skateboard. Instead, the BLACKPINK star delivered gnarly vocals while performing a live version of her song “3am,” setting up shop with her band at Channel Street Skatepark in Los Angeles.

A video of the performance posted Thursday (Jan. 23) opens with an overhead view of skateboarders zooming back and forth on the park’s topsy-turvy ramp before panning over to ROSÉ and her band. Dressed in a simple black crop top and jeans, the performer’s voice rings out crystal clear over powerful electric guitar, bass and drums.

“I just want it to be you when it’s 3 a.m./ And I’m losing mysеlf in my mind again,” she sings on the track as skaters continue doing tricks behind her. “The one who gives mе love that is bulletproof/ The world can roll their eyes, but there’s no use/ I just want it to be you.”

Trending on Billboard

“3am” appears on ROSÉ’s debut solo album rosie, which dropped in December and reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The LP also spawned the star’s hit duet “APT.” with Bruno Mars, which spent 11 weeks atop the Billboard Global 200.

The musician’s solo record comes amid a hiatus for BLACKPINK as ROSÉ and her bandmates — JENNIE, JISOO and LISA — work on solo projects. In a recent interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the “On the Ground” musician opened up about how writing songs for rosie was “like a free therapy session” for her.

“I healed so much through the whole process,” she added. “For me, it’s a really personal album and I’m really grateful for it.”

Carrie Underwood, Nelly & More Inauguration Performers Get Modest Sales Bumps, No Major Streaming Gains

This week: Performers at President Trump’s second inauguration are up in sales but static in streams, Hozier takes over streaming with a new-old cover and a couple generation-separated indie singer-songwriters go viral for very different songs.

Inauguration Performances Spur Modest Sales Gains (But Streaming Dips) for Carrie Underwood, Nelly & More

The presidential inauguration of Donald Trump on Monday (Jan. 20) included multiple events with a variety of musical performances — many of which earned criticism from fans of artists aligning themselves with Trump’s return to the U.S. presidency, as well as statements by those artists defending their appearances. Chief among them were Carrie Underwood, who sang “America the Beautiful” after Trump delivered his inaugural address, and Nelly, who performed at the Liberty Inaugural Ball.

Trending on Billboard

Although both the former American Idol winner and the St. Louis rapper made headlines for their performances connected to the inauguration, neither experienced much movement in their daily streaming totals as a result. Underwood’s catalog earned 1.46 million U.S. on-demand streams on Monday, down nearly 6% from the previous Monday (1.55 million on Jan. 13), according to Luminate. Nelly’s streaming catalog was also down 5%, from 1.63 million on Jan. 13 to 1.54 million on Inauguration Day. However, both artists experienced upticks in digital sales those days, with Underwood and Nelly moving a couple hundred extra daily downloads (although still posting fewer than 1,000 downloads for the day).

So how did a more politically outspoken performer fare? Kid Rock, a longtime Trump supporter who played a rally at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. the night before the inauguration, posted the slightest uptick in catalog streams on Inauguration Day (1.08 million, up from 1.07 million the previous Monday), as well as comparable gains in digital sales as Underwood and Nelly. – JASON LIPSHUTZ

Fans ‘Wanna Know’ About Hozier’s 2014 Arctic Monkeys Cover

It feels like a fever dream of mid-’10s Tumblr alt-rock: Hozier, singer-songwriter behind one of the biggest and best-loved alt-rock hits of 2014, covering one of the year’s other biggest and best-loved hits in Arctic Monkeys’ “Do I Wanna Know.” The Irish crossover star did indeed do just that a decade ago, with a sweetly tender BBC Live Lounge rendition of the stomping late-night staple. Hozier’s version was never released as a single, but it did make an appearance on the special edition of his self-titled debut album, released in 2015.

Now, the song has taken on new life, as Hozier fans – who have multiplied in number over the past decade, especially following the release of his Hot 100-topping “Too Sweet” last year – have rediscovered the yearning cover, making it go viral all across social media, and on YouTube where the 10-year-old performance clip currently rates as one of the channel’s top 50 videos. The cover has particularly exploded over the last five days, amassing over 1.4 million combined official on-demand U.S. streams, up 3,941% from the same period the previous week, according to Luminate. And of course, the Arctic Monkeys original is feeling the spillover love too: The U.K. band’s original “Do I Wanna Know” racked up 3.5 million streams for the week ending Jan. 16, up 44% from the prior frame. – ANDREW UNTERBERGER

Beabadoobee’s ‘Real Man’ Becomes Her Latest Viral Hit

Beabadoobee has spent the past half-decade successfully braiding traditional indie-pop album releases and promotion with viral moments, as songs like her Powfu collaboration “Death Bed (Coffee for Your Head)” and her own “The Perfect Pair” have earned hundreds of millions of streams after blowing up with the TikTok set. The British singer-songwriter has now done it again with “Real Man,” the smoky, piano-laced standout from last year’s full-length This is How Tomorrow Moves.

The chorus line of “I guess no one ever taught you how to be a real man” has inspired a flex-inflected TikTok dance and wave of lip synchs, helping “Real Man” break through on streaming platforms. A month ago, the track earned 1.84 million U.S. on-demand streams for the week ending Dec. 26, according to Luminate; that number has now nearly doubled, to 3.67 million for the week ending Jan. 16. Meanwhile, “The Perfect Pair,” which went viral back in 2022, is going viral again (re-viraling?) thanks to “Real Man” listeners discovering the older track, with 3.68 million streams for the week ending Jan. 16 — up nearly 30% from a month ago. – JL

Julie Doiron Sets Her Calendar for a Surprise Viral Hit

A breakout hit would’ve been something close to unforeseeable for Julie Doiron even at the peak of her ‘90s hipness. The Canadian lo-fi indie singer-songwriter (and bassist for underground favorites Eric’s Trip) had never made significant impact on the Billboard charts during her now three-decade recording career, releasing a consistent stream of well-received albums but never really even threatening a crossover moment. That’s changed in the last couple months, however, as Doiron has scored one of the surprise streaming hits of the early year: “August 10,” from 1996’s Broken Girl

The slow, sad and still determinedly un-pop ballad has taken off on TikTok – not due to any particular trend or synch or influencer endorsement, but just through a series of popular recreations (of both Doiron’s vocals and her bare-bones guitar playing) and emotional videos set to the pleading verse. The striking song has hit enough of a nerve – seasonal sadness, perhaps – that it has exploded to over four million official on-demand U.S. streams in the week ending Jan. 16, according to Luminate, part of a steady climb that’s seen the song rise a little every week going back to last November. The streaming activity has even powered the song to a debut on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs listing, reaching a No. 12 peak. If it’s doing this well in January, imagine what might happen when we actually get to August. – AU

Charli XCX to Produce & Possibly Star in New Movie ‘The Moment’ Based on Her Original Idea

Charli XCX is producing — and will possibly star in — a new movie she conceptualized.

As announced by Variety on Thursday (Jan. 23), the 32-year-old singer/songwriter will team up with A24 for a film titled The Moment, which will be based on her own original idea. Details about the plot and characters have not yet been revealed, but the publication reports that Charli may also star in the project.

Aidan Zamiri will make his directorial debut on the project. The Scottish photographer and filmmaker also wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes; A.G. Cooke, who produced much of Charli’s year-defining 2024 album Brat, is locked in to compose the score.

The Moment marks the first undertaking of the “Apple” singer’s new production company, Studio365. It’s also part of a larger career pivot from Charli, who has previously opened up about wanting to shift from music to acting; coming up, viewers will see the pop star play roles in Benito Skinner’s Overcompensating series, Gregg Araki’s upcoming thriller I Want Your Sex, Daniel Goldhaber’s Faces of Death remake and Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights of Hero graphic-novel adaptation.

Trending on Billboard

“I’m enjoying learning about being on a set and learning from great directors and actors,” Charli told Variety of her new ventures in December. “I hate it when musicians dive into a different field head-first without really researching or learning much of anything about it. So I did a lot of reading to educate myself over the past three or four years before I actually did anything.”

News of Charli’s next film arrives on the same day the 2025 BRIT Awards nominations went live, with the singer sweeping nods in five categories — more than any other act this year — including artist of the year, pop act and dance act. She’s also up for album of the year with Brat, while “Guess” is in the running for song of the year.

Scott Pang, Longtime ICM Booking Agent Who Worked With Usher & Lauryn Hill, Dies at 69

Longtime booking agent Scott Pang passed away on Thursday (Jan. 23) after suffering from a cardiac arrest. He was 69 years old.

“He loved what he did and he was always on the phone,” his son Thompson Pang tells Billboard. “He knew so many people, it was crazy.”

Pang was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on Aug. 5, 1955, to a schoolteacher father and a mother who was a homemaker. He headed to California in the late 1970s to attend UC San Diego and pursue a career as an agent, ultimately landing a job at the William Morris Agency (now WME) in 1980. In 1990, he joined the Ice Capades and the Harlem Globetrotters to serve as their director of touring, before joining ICM Partners in 1994 where he worked with artists like Lauryn Hill, The Beach Boys, Usher, Zendaya and many more.

Pang left ICM in 2020 after the company merged with CAA and began working independently with his clients. He was a regular presence at industry events like Pollstar Live, the International Entertainment Buyers Association and the International Association of Venue Managers’ VenueConnect conference. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed Southern California car culture and spent many weekends at car shows in and around the San Fernando Valley.

Pang is survived by his four children — his eldest son Thompson, twins Andrew and Lily and youngest daughter Katie — and his longtime spouse Greta. Services will likely be held at St. Bernadine in Woodland Hills, Calif., with a funeral date to be announced.

Cynthia Erivo Celebrates ‘Unbelievable’ Oscars Nomination: ‘A Dream Come True’

Cynthia Erivo is defying gravity with her Oscars nomination.

The Academy unveiled its 2025 nominees on Thursday (Jan. 23), with Erivo snagging a nod in the best actress in a leading role category for her portrayal of Elphaba in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked. To celebrate, the star took to Instagram to share a series of photos from the film, along with a heartfelt caption expressing her gratitude for the honor. “Moments like this don’t come along very often, and when they do, it is sacrilege to let them pass by without a moment of gratitude. I am grateful, grateful to @theacademy, grateful to be a part of something that makes people feel seen, grateful to be a cog in the wheel of a piece that makes us believe in magic, grateful to have experienced a dream come true, and deeply deeply grateful for this unbelievable recognition,” she wrote.

Erivo continued, “I often get asked what I would say to my younger self. Well today there’s nothing to be said. She is smiling, beaming, glowing from ear to ear. That speaks volumes.”

She went on to congratulate her co-star Ariana Grande, who received her first-ever nomination for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Glinda. “To my sister, @arianagrande, what a joy it is to be here with you watching as you ascend and amaze and become the actress you were meant to be. Congratulations first time nominee, I’m so so proud of you!! There is no one in the world I would have wanted to do this with more than you.”

Erivo also thanked Chu, who she deemed, “our fearless leader whose kindness provided us with the room to play,” adding, “you are deserving of all good things and I’m lucky to call you my brother.”

Erivo is up against Emilia Pérez‘s Karla Sofía Gascón, Anora‘s Mikey Madison, The Substance‘s Demi Moore and I’m Still Here‘s Fernanda Torres. Earning 10 nods total this year, Wicked ties with The Brutalist for second-most nominated project at the 2025 Oscars. Only Emilia Pérez has more, scoring 13 total.
