Travis Kelce Put a Smile on Taylor Swift’s Face When He Sang a KC & the Sunshine Band Classic After Chiefs Win

On Sunday (Jan. 26), it was Travis Kelce‘s turn to sing in the spotlight. As Taylor Swift looked on from the field, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end celebrated his team winning the AFC Championship following a tight battle with their frequent rivals, the Buffalo Bills, with a little ditty.

After Kelce and the gang punched their ticket to next month’s Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9 in New Orleans, the tight end was asked about his three-peat talk last year, before the Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in a row; the team could make history when they face off against fierce rivals the Philadelphia Eagles at the SB, where they will try to become the first NFL team to ever win three championships in a row.

As Swift and his mom, Donna Kelce, cheered him on from the field, Kelce talked about how it feels to be one victory away from something that’s never happened before in the league. “Never satisfied, baby. When you play in front of Arrowhead Stadium like this every single AFC championship…” Kelce said as confetti rained down around him.

Trending on Billboard

“You kiddin’ me?” Kelce added while Swift and his mom clapped and smiled along with the rest of the crowd in Arrowhead. “Kansas cityyyyyyyyy! Hey, before you guys get outta here. Just do a little dance, make a little love,” Kelce sang as he shook his shoulders while sporting his AFC champ shirt and matching black baseball hat, encouraging the hometown crowd to get funky with a bit of KC & the Sunshine Band‘s 1975 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “Get Down Tonight.”

He then put his hand to his ear, smiled and waited for the Chiefs nation to shout back “get down tonight!” as Swift was caught on camera smiling at his impromptu sing-along. Swift made the scene, of course, in style, sporting a Louis Vuitton zip-up jacket over a flared skirt, complimented by a black cashmere beanie and red tights with high-heeled LV ankle boots.

It’s a fair bet that Swift will be in the family sky box again on Super Bowl Sunday, when the Chiefs will try to beat the Eagles in the big for the second time in three years. Kendrick Lamar will serve as the halftime performer at the game where he’ll be joined by SZA.

Aitch Responds to Central Cee Diss on Fiery Reply Track ‘A Guy Called?’

Manchester-based rapper Aitch has fired back at Central Cee after the latter dissed him on his recently-released album Can’t Rush Greatness (Jan. 24).

On the LP’s “5 Star,” Central Cee (real name Oakley Neil Caesar-Su) came for Aitch in a line that referenced the latter winning a BRIT Award over him at the 2023 ceremony. Aitch triumphed in the hip-hop/grime/rap category over Central Cee, Dave, Loyle Carner and Stormzy. Central Cee has been nominated for the award a number of times and has yet to grab the prize

“I felt like a p—k when I went to the BRITs and they gave the award to a guy called Aitch/ I had my acceptance speech prepared like, ‘Long live F’s,’ I’m goin’ insane,” he said. The latter line references Central Cee’s close friend Fernando “FDot Johnson” who was murdered in January 2023.

Trending on Billboard

Later that afternoon (Jan. 24), the Manchester rapper responded to the diss with a track “A Guy Called?” which was uploaded directly to his Instagram with the caption “leave me alone” alongside a picture of his BRITs trophy. On the track’s opening line Aitch claims that Central Cee is an “influencer” and that he will “jump in the booth for something to do.”

Further references in the track allude to Cench’s BRITs barb, saying: “Little boy is just there to be spun, gettin’ mad at the BRITs, there’s bare to be won.” Later in the track, Aitch adds: “Bringin’ the BRITs up two years later, f— my life, you should go live yours.”

Elsewhere Aitch alleges that Central Cee employs ghostwriters (“All your songs get wrote by Clint, in the booth, one mic, two c—s”) and makes reference to Central Cee’s ethnicity (“Clint was p—d ’cause Cench got beat by a white MC, Cench is as white as me”). Speaking to British Vogue in 2024, Central Cee said that he was born to an English mother and a father of Guyanese and Chinese ancestry.

A number of their U.K. rap contemporaries including Kairo Keyz, ArrDee and M1llionz have commented on Aitch’s Instagram post. Central Cee responded to the track by commenting “fair enough” alongside a flame and laughing face emoji. Listen to the track below.

Aitch released his debut album Close to Home in 2022 and which reached No. 2 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart.

Central Cee is nominated once again in the hip-hop/grime/rap category at the 2025 BRITs which take place March 1, where he will go up against Dave, Ghetts, Little Simz and Stormzy for the prize.

Taylor Swift Attends Chiefs-Bills AFC Championship Game in Style

It was almost head-to-toe Louis Vuitton for Taylor Swift at the Chiefs-Bills game Sunday evening (Jan. 26). She attended the NFL AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, in support of Travis Kelce, tight end for the Chiefs. Sunday’s playoff game determined which team will play the Eagles at this year’s Super Bowl: the Chiefs.

The pop star looked put together, as usual, but incorporated a bit of coziness into her Sunday night football look at the stadium, where she watched the game with her mother, Andrea, by her side. Swift was seen sharing a hug with her mom and Kelce’s mom, Donna, in their suite while celebrating a touchdown.

Swift wore a roomy Louis Vuitton zip-up jacket (Monogram Jacquard Knit Jacket, $5,000) over a skirt with a pleated, flared silhouette. Her “LV”-monogrammed coat was complemented by a simple black cashmere beanie (Spark Beanie, $550) also with the luxury brand’s logo, in hardware. Swift added a pop of color to the ensemble — with her red tights — and chunky, high-heeled Louis Vuitton ankle boots, as identified by fan account @taylorswiftstyled.

Trending on Billboard

Swift blew a kiss to those greeting her as she arrived, as seen in the clip below shared by NFL on CBS.

Last weekend, Swift was joined by the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark to cheer on Kelce and the Chiefs at the Jan. 18 divisional round game in Kansas City, where the Chiefs defeated the Texans. The pair, who shared hugs and high fives, had been planning to get together to see the Chiefs play. Swift invited Clark to a game after the pro basketball player enjoyed The Eras Tour at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

A triumph for the Chiefs on Sunday night is sending the team to the Super Bowl, and making it the second year in a row for Swift to likely be there for Kelce at the big game. The Chiefs won the Super Bowl in 2024.

Timothée Chalamet’s Return as ‘SNL’ Host: All 6 Sketches Ranked

Timothée Chalamet hosted SNL for a third time and starred in six sketches that made it to air Saturday night (Jan. 25) in an episode that also had him on the bill as musical guest.

Pulling double duty as host and music act, Chalamet seamlessly shifted between being himself in his monologue and embracing his Bob Dylan side in his music performances — and portraying SNL sketch characters including a bungee class icon, a barista who thinks he’s a stand-up comedian, an AI creation, a small dog, an animated version of God and a gassy cardiologist. (Fans in the live rehearsal audience report there were sketches cut for time, like a Grammys roundtable skit that had Chalamet bringing back his SNL personality SmokeCheddaDaAssGetta. Fingers crossed it surfaces on SNL‘s YouTube channel later.)

“I’m so grateful Saturday Night Live is still doing weird stuff like this 50 years in,” Chalamet, who stars as Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown, joked to the audience during his monologue. “They’re either really nice for letting me do this or incredibly mean, and this is all a big prank. I sincerely can’t tell. We’ll find out.”

Chalamet seemed to overcome any nerves that accompany leading and performing on the SNL, which tapes in front of a live audience in New York. There are pre-taped sketches, as well, but all of the actor’s parts broadcast this weekend were live, other than his voiceover role as God. Perhaps Chalamet has his performing arts high school alter ego, the show-stealing rapper Timmy Tim, to thank for preparing him for this very moment.

One highlight of Saturday night’s episode not listed here is the cold open, which unfortunately didn’t feature Chalamet. It did have a surprise cameo by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who reprised his Hamilton role in a post-Trump inauguration sketch about America’s founding fathers.

Here’s a ranking of every sketch Chalamet was in Saturday night, when SNL‘s Jan. 25 episode aired. Watch all six sketches below.

“Sports Car” took home 25% of the vote, narrowly beating other notable new releases like Sexyy Red and Bruno Mars‘ “Fat Juicy & Wet,” Djo‘s “Basic Being Basic,” Travis Scott‘s “4×4” and Central Cee‘s Can’t Rush Greatness, among others.

Trending on Billboard

“Sports Car” crackles with energy, much like the pop star’s recent singles, with a whispered chorus that draws listeners in before sending them into a danceable frenzy. Co-written by McRae, Ryan Tedder, Grant Boutin and Julia Michaels, the song will appear on her upcoming third album, So Close to What, set for release on Feb. 21 through RCA Records.

“Sports Car” follows McRae’s recent singles “2 hands” and “It’s ok I’m ok,” the latter of which topped Billboard’s Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart.

In March, the singer-songwriter will launch her Miss Possessive Tour, which will travel across South America, Europe, the U.K. and North America. The Live Nation-produced trek begins March 18 at Mexico City’s Pepsi Center and will wrap up on Sept. 27 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Benee will support on all European/U.K. dates, while Zara Larsson will join McRae for the U.S./Canada leg of the tour.

Taking second place in the poll is the “other” category, which garnered nearly 24% of the vote. Sexyy Red and Bruno Mars’ “Fat Juicy & Wet” secured third place with 22% of the vote. The track marks Mars’ third collaboration in recent months, following his Billboard Hot 100-topping “Die With a Smile” with Lady Gaga and “APT.” with Rosé.

Also in the top 10 of the latest Billboard 200, Mac Miller’s from-the-vaults release Balloonerism debuts at No. 3, marking the eighth top 10-charting set for the rapper, who died in 2018. The set’s songs date back to 2014, but the project was shelved in favor of other releases.

Trending on Billboard

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Feb. 1, 2025-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Jan. 28. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram.

Of the 151,000 equivalent album units earned by Debí Tirar Más Fotos in the week ending Jan. 23, SEA units comprise 146,000 (down 25%; equaling 198.78 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs; it’s No. 1 for a third week on Top Streaming Albums), album sales comprise 4,000 (down 46%; falling 8-11 on Top Album Sales) and TEA units comprise 1,000 (down 30%).

SZA’s former No. 1 SOS rises 3-2 with 90,000 equivalent album units (down 12%).

Mac Miller’s Balloonerism bows at No. 3 with 81,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 41,000 (it debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales), SEA units comprise 40,000 (equaling 51.56 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs; it debuts at No. 4 on Top Streaming Albums) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. The set’s sales were bolstered by its availability across six vinyl variants, a CD, digital download album and cassette tape.

In total, Balloonerism is Miller’s eighth top 10-charting effort on the Billboard 200. It follows Faces (No. 3 in 2021), Circles (No. 3, 2020), Swimming (No. 3, 2018), The Divine Feminine (No. 2, 2016), GO:OD AM (No. 4, 2015), Watching Movies With the Sound Off (No. 2, 2013) and Blue Slide Park (No. 1, 2011).

Kendrick Lamar’s former leader GNX is a non-mover on the Billboard 200 at No. 4 (59,000 equivalent album units; down 8%) while Gracie AbramsThe Secret of Us surges 10-5 (52,000; up 42% after the release of a deluxe version across three vinyl variants and a CD).

Three former No. 1s are next, with Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet steady at No. 6 (43,000 equivalent album units; down 9%), Lil Baby’s WHAM dipping 5-7 (39,000; down 30%) and Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time rising a notch to No. 8 (37,000 down 3%).

Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft falls two rungs to No. 9 (nearly 37,000 equivalent album units; down 8%), and Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department climbs 12-10 (35,000; down 3%).

Spotify, Universal Music Strike New Deal For Recorded Music & Publishing

Universal Music Group and Spotify have struck a new direct deal, impacting both the company’s recorded music and publishing royalty rates, the companies announced today (Jan. 26). In a statement, UMG chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge said that the deal is “precisely the kind of partnership development [UMG] envisioned” as part of its idea for “Streaming 2.0,” the company’s proposed changes to revamp streaming royalty rates and improve remuneration for its artists on streaming platforms.

Under the new agreement, UMG and Spotify “will collaborate closely to advance the next era of streaming innovation,” according to a press release. “Artists, songwriters and consumers will benefit from new and evolving offers, new paid subscription tiers, bundling of music and non-music content, and a richer audio and visual content catalog,” the press release continues. The deal also includes continued protection for UMG through Spotify’s fraud detection and enforcement systems.

Importantly, the agreement includes a direct deal between Spotify and Universal Music Publishing Group, the first direct deal between Spotify and a publisher since the passage of the Music Modernization Act in 2018. One top publishing executive tells Billboard that this change “sounds like Spotify is raising the white flag” about the so-called “bundling” dispute which has soured relations between many publishers, writers and Spotify since it launched last year. In March, Billboard reported that Spotify’s payments to music publishers and songwriters would be cut significantly to account for Spotify bundling in audiobooks as part of its premium tiers. Instead of paying out royalties for these tiers purely to music publishers and writers, Spotify began splitting the payments between music and books publishers.

Trending on Billboard

Billboard estimated the losses to be about $150 million in the first year the bundled audiobooks took effect. Now, nearly a year later, Universal Music Publishing Group appears to be back in a better position with Spotify. One source familiar with the deal said it has improved royalty payments for UMPG songwriters, although the two companies declined to state the specifics of how the new publishing royalty model (or the one for recorded music) works.

“Spotify maintains its bundle, but with this direct deal, it has evolved to account for broader rights, including a different economic treatment for music and non-music content,” a Spotify spokesperson clarified in a statement to Billboard.

“[This deal] makes sense,” the publishing executive tells Billboard. “[Spotify is] despised in the songwriting industry. Their main competitor, Amazon, has already left them isolated and alone. And they claim to want to expand into more videos but can’t get deals done. It was monumentally stupid for them to put themselves in this position but perhaps they are finally trying to get out of the bind they put themselves in.”

Grainge said, in his complete statement about the deal, “When we first presented our vision for the next stage in the evolution of music subscription several months ago — Streaming 2.0 — this is precisely the kind of partnership development we envisioned. This agreement furthers and broadens the collaboration with Spotify for both our labels and music publisher, advancing artist-centric principles to drive greater monetization for artists and songwriters, as well as enhancing product offerings for consumers.”

“For nearly two decades, Spotify has made good on its commitment to return the music industry to growth, ensuring that we deliver record payouts to the benefit of artists and songwriters each new year,” Spotify founder/CEO Daniel Ek said in a statement. “This partnership ensures we can continue to deliver on this promise by embracing the certainty that constant innovation is key to making paid music subscriptions even more attractive to a broader audience of fans around the world.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda Reprises ‘Hamilton’ Role, Gets Interrupted by Trump in ‘SNL’ Cold Open: Watch

Lin-Manuel Miranda made a surprise return as Alexander Hamilton during a cameo on Saturday Night Live.

The NBC sketch comedy show’s cold open on Jan. 25 featured Miranda reprising his iconic Hamilton role in a hilarious spoof of the U.S. founding fathers signing the Declaration of Independence.

The nearly seven-minute sketch began with Miranda, dressed in full Hamilton attire, joining his fellow statesmen as he rapped about America’s future.

“What matters is the nation we build,” the Tony winner rapped. “Because in America, all men are created equal. America, not England. We’re doing the sequel. And we will have leaders, but no one thing. In America we will never have a king.”

The Broadway star’s performance was interrupted by SNL cast member James Austin Johnson, who impersonated Donald Trump. Johnson’s Trump took the spotlight, boasting about becoming the 47th president.

Trending on Billboard

“Never say never,” Johnson’s Trump said as Miranda and the other founding fathers froze in place. “Kidding of course, though many ways I’m not. I’m in my king era.”

He continued, “But just like the founding fathers, I am creating a new country as well. And just like them, we’re doing it very whitely. DEI is over. It’s dead. Workplaces must go back to looking like the TV show The Office: mostly white people but with one funny Black guy who is having a really bad time.”

After making a playful jab at Trump’s 18-year-old son Barron, Johnson’s Trump declared his second inauguration a “tremendous success,” saying, “It was inside due to cold and fear. But we had a lot of surprise guests. Like Melania. That was nice.”

The president then took aim at Miranda, teasing him for being “tricked into coming here and now he’s frozen on stage.”

“Oh, look at Lin,” Johnson’s Trump said, mocking Miranda’s stillness. “Look at how bad he wants to do a rap. He wrote a whole rap and he doesn’t get to do it. Oh, the audience would have eaten that up. But we’re not gonna hear it.”

Getting closer to Miranda’s frozen Hamilton, Johnson’s Trump taunted, “He’s in sniffing distance of an EGOT and he’s got to stand there until I’m done.” Miranda finally broke character, cracking a smile as Trump continued, “Lindy, Lindy, Lindy, Lindy. Laura Linney. Lin-Manuel Miranda Cosgrove. There he is.”

Saturday’s episode also featured Timothée Chalamet, star of the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, pulling double duty as both host and musical guest. You can catch recaps of his monologue here and his musical performances here.

Rapper DJ Unk’s Cause of Death Revealed

Two days after the death of DJ Unk, the Atlanta rapper behind the 2006 snap hit “Walk It Out,” his wife has revealed the cause of his passing.

Sherkita Long-Platt, DJ Unk’s widow, confirmed on Friday (Jan. 24) that the rapper had died at the age of 43. In a heartfelt Facebook post, she wrote, “Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER,” without disclosing the cause of death.

On Sunday (Jan. 26), Long-Platt shared with TMZ that her husband passed away in his sleep after suffering a cardiac arrest. She also addressed rumors circulating about DJ Unk’s possible involvement with substance abuse, clarifying that he had not struggled with drugs.

TMZ reports that a candlelight vigil for DJ Unk is planned for Sunday evening in his Atlanta neighborhood.

Born Anthony Leonard Platt, DJ Unk was part of the Southern Style DJs before signing with Big Oomp Records in 2000. He made his debut with the single “Walk It Out” in August 2006, months ahead of his first album, Beat’n Down Yo Block!, which reached No. 21 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. “Walk It Out” peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on both Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

“I’m glad that it’s good energy and good vibes in the song ’cause they use it as far as work out dances, they use it in church, they use it for anything,” DJ Unk told Billboard at the 2023 BET Awards.

He also expressed his gratitude for André 3000’s verse on the remix of “Walk It Out,” which featured OutKast and Jim Jones. “I still can’t believe that to this day,” he said. “I never dreamed that he would get on a record like that because he’s so powerful as far as hip-hop and music and everything, so it’s a blessing. That was a dream come true. It was like doing a song with Michael Jackson.”

DJ Unk’s second single, “2Step,” from Beat’n Down Yo Block!, reached No. 24 on the Hot 100 and landed in the top 10 on both Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The success of those tracks solidified DJ Unk as a leader of the snap subgenre of Southern hip-hop. His second album, 2econd Season, released in 2008, peaked at No. 15 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

More recently, GloRilla’s 2024 debut album, Glorious, features a sample of DJ Unk’s “Hold on Ho” from Beat’n Down Yo Block!
