Nelly Says Diddy Couldn’t Beat Jermaine Dupri in a ‘Verzuz’: ‘Wasn’t Gonna Be Close’

Nelly thinks Diddy wouldn’t stand a chance against Jermaine Dupri in a Verzuz.
The St. Louis rapper visited Drink Champs recently, where he was asked to choose between Timbaland and Dupri, and the convo veered into a Verzuz that — for whatever reason — never came to fruition.
“Respectfully, and outside of current situations,” he began in reference to Diddy’s current legal troubles. “Him and Puff do Verzuz, Puff is gonna get murdered. Easy. Wasn’t gonna be close. Puff is smart; he didn’t want no part. He knew that. … Why you think he wanted to hold Verzuz in New York? J.D. can hold a Verzuz anywhere.”
Nelly added: “You do realize when you talking about J.D., you talking about going all the way back to Kris Kross, what is it that he didn’t do?”
Back in May 2023, Diddy told Busta Rhymes that he and J.D. were scheduled to finally square up for Verzuz on Sept. 8 at Madison Square Garden after going back and forth about a possible showdown since 2020.
A year prior in 2022, while talking with Rory & Mal, Dupri was skeptical if the battle would happen and questioned which Bad Boy artists would come out to perform due to the troubled mogul’s rocky past with many of them.
“I don’t think so,” Dupri said about the Verzuz going down. “Because I feel like it’s a performance-based thing now and the majority of Puff’s records, who’s gonna perform? Yeah, [he can bring out] The LOX, but you can’t have nobody do Big’s verses and I don’t know that Mase would come out with him no more, so I don’t think that it would happen based on that.”
