Lil Wayne made a surprise appearance at the SNL50: The Anniversary Special celebrations on Sunday night (Feb. 16) where he performed a greatest hits medley from his decorated Tha Carter series.

From “Mrs. Officer” to the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Lollipop” and closing out with “A Milli,” Weezy jumped around his discography with help from The Roots and DJ T. Lewis.

The Shade Room reposted highlights of Wayne’s performance, and while some shared their stamp of approval, others were critical of the New Orleans rap legend.

Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae Carter, doesn’t play around when it comes to defending her father’s legacy, and she clapped back at those shading Weezy in the comments section on Monday (Feb. 17).

“Yall are some d riders! My dad been having fun performing for years! He is truly himself when he hits the stage. Go play with yall mf kids.. he collected a check after this.. what yall get for hating? not a damn thing,” she wrote, as captured by The Shade Room.

Rapper Yella Beezy also came to Wayne’s defense in the comments. He chimed in: “When the hating don’t work they start telling lies !!! Bro goated… they doing anything to keep from given credit …. Smh.”

The performance marks Wayne’s fourth time appearing on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest. Weezy made his debut back in 2008 as part of the season 34 opening episode surrounding his Tha Carter III album.

At 26 years old, Reginae is the eldest and only daughter of Lil Wayne. She teamed up with her father on Tha Carter V while lending her vocals to “Famous” in 2018.
