The Eagles have pledged $2.5 million to FireAid, the Jan. 30 benefit concert for Los Angeles fire victims to be held at Intuit Dome. There is no word whether the band, who is in the middle of a residency at Sphere in Las Vegas, will play the show.
The event, billed as “an evening of music and solidarity” and produced by the Irving Azoff family alongside usual competitors Live Nation and AEG Presents, will donate proceeds toward an organization created to rebuild Los Angeles infrastructure, as well as support displaced families and advance fire prevention technologies and strategies. The timing works in their favor to take advantage of artists in town for the Grammys, which are slated for Feb. 2. Azoff is the Eagles’ longtime manager
No acts have been announced for the benefit yet. Ticket information and performers will be announced in the coming days.
The catastrophic fires started Jan. 7 in the Pacific Palisades on the west side of Los Angeles, and quickly spread to other areas over the next few days, including Altadena, Studio City and Runyon Canyon. As of Wednesday (Jan. 15), Los Angeles was still on high alert, as most of the fires were not contained and new ones continued to ignite as late as Monday night (Jan. 13).
The music industry has been hard hit with more than 300 executives and artists losing their homes. Several have noted their losses on social media, including legendary record mixer Bob Clearmountain, producer Greg Wells, attorney Laurie Soriano and publicists Kim Grant and Lesley Zimmerman, as well as Zachary Cole Smith of the L.A. band DIIV. A document with more than 300 names of those who have lost their homes has been circulating with links to GoFundMe accounts for those who have set them up.
