50 Cent Says He Would Have to Tap Into His ‘Stupid Side’ to Make Rap Music Again

Written by on October 2, 2024

50 Cent had some interesting things to say about why he doesn’t rap anymore.

During an interview earlier this year with Earn Your Leisure at Invest Fest that’s just now making the rounds on social media, 50 alluded to rap music today being dumbed down.

“If you listen to the music that’s out right now, I have to tap into my stupid,” he said. “I have to tap into the stupid side of me to write the right thing when it comes time to write the music. This is why I haven’t created as much content as I was creating in the past and I started going towards the film production and development of these projects. Because I can impact things in a bigger way through that. Tyler [Perry]’s been there all by himself.”

For what it’s worth, back in 2023, Fif told Big Boy that he was working on new music with Dr. Dre. When asked about a since-deleted Instagram post mentioning new music, TV and movies, the Queens rapper said Eminem hit him up about the post and said Dre had some beats for him already. “As soon as I said that, I got a text from Em that he had already spoke to Dre,” he told Big Boy. “And that Dre is in there and he got some crazy stuff for me to go hear,” he said. “This is my process: I’ll go make something, what I can find, the best music that I can put my hands on. And when I feel real good about it, I bring it to put pressure on Dre to offer me something. ‘Cause he’ll have something… He’s always had something.”

50 hasn’t released new music aside from the theme songs from his Power Universe on STARZ. His last album was 2014’s Animal Ambition. He’s been staying busy on the film production side of things, though. In February 2023. he inked a nonexclusive multi-project broadcast direct deal with Fox, and he’s producing a documentary centered on the allegations surrounding Diddy for Netflix.
