Ariana Grande Reveals ‘Eternal Sunshine’ Is ‘a Concept Album’ & ‘Really Vulnerable’

Ariana Grande has had big plans for her new album Eternal Sunshine from the very beginning. In a Thursday (Feb. 1) Instagram video, the pop star pulled back the curtain on an early rollout meeting she had with her team at Republic Records, during which she revealed that the project is both “really vulnerable” and a “concept” record.
“Things are kind of just pouring out and happening very quickly,” Grande tells her team in the clip, sharing that she started recording the LP as soon as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes forced the upcoming Wicked movies, in which she’ll star as Glinda, to pause filming. “It’s kind of a concept album ’cause it’s all different heightened pieces of the same story, of the same experience.”
“I’m weirdly emotional. F–king pull it together, b—h!” she continues. “Some of [the songs] are really vulnerable, some of them are like playing the part of what people kind of expect me to be sometimes and having fun with it.”
Grande also included photos of her working on the album in the studio and shooting its cover artwork in the video. “I think this one may be your favorite,” she wrote of Eternal Sunshine on her Instagram Story. “It is mine.”
The new post comes days after the Grammy winner revealed two titles from Eternal Sunshine‘s tracklist on social media. The first of the March 8 project’s 13 songs is called “Intro (End of the World),” while the fifth will be the album’s title track.
No. 9 on the tracklist will be the already released lead single “Yes, And?,” which debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month. The feat marked Grande’s eighth No. 1 hit on the chart.
