Kid Cudi and Rap Sh!t creator Issa Rae are getting a cartoon makeover in the new series Young Love. HBO Max green lit the expansion of the Oscar-winning short Hair Love back in 2020, but is now officially coming to our screens on Max starting Thursday (Sept. 21).
Now, you can delve deeper into the Chicago family’s lives as the new series will follow the millennial parents as they deal with the everyday challenges of life such as parenting, finances, career and striving to achieve their dreams. It also spotlights what comes after overcoming a major sickness — if you’ve seen the short film you’ll know that Rae’s character had cancer, which will be one of the major themes seen throughout the season.
The show was created by Oscar-winner Matthew A. Cherry with other cast members including Brooke Monroe Conaway, Harry Lennix, Loretta Devine and Tamar Braxton.
Hair Love‘s initial success not only earned it an animated series, but the short film was adapted into a picture book as well, which comes in an Audible edition with narration by Blue Ivy Carter.
