A few years ago, the idea of Katy Perry dating Justin Trudeau would have sounded too random to be true — but in 2025, everything changed.
The couple first came together over the summer, shocking fans as whispers — followed by photos and videos — linked them together. From there, the Cali-born singer and politician would be seen getting cozy amid the former’s Lifetimes Tour and packing on the PDA during her downtime, proving that they were way more than just friends.
Their romance came after both parties underwent very public breakups. The month before the pop star was first seen with the former Canadian prime minister, she and longterm partner Orlando Bloom — with whom she shares daughter Daisy — split up after nine years of dating.
“Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting,” the exes’ rep told Billboardshortly afterward. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”
Trudeau’s separation from Sophie Grégoire took place in August 2023, with the pair announcing they were parting ways after 18 years of marriage, during which time they welcomed three kids together. Trudeau and Perry were first spotted together in July, enjoying a private dinner together in Montreal. At the time, it wasn’t clear whether it was just a friendly hang or a romantic date — but in time, fans learned that their connection definitely wasn’t platonic.

Shortly after their dinner, Trudeau attended Perry’s concert in Montreal and appeared to be having a grand time watching the pop star dominate the stage. He looked especially lovey-dovey during her performance of smash hit “Firework,” during which he watched her with awe, awe, awe while singing along.

As rumors about his ex and Trudeau swirled, Orlando Bloom showed that he had a sense of humor about it. Two days after the yacht photos were published, Perry joked about her relationship status during a concert. In response to a man in the crowd with a sign asking her to marry him, the stunned musician replied, “You heard I was single? That’s interesting.”

Perry and Trudeau finally officially confirmed their romance by stepping out together at a cabaret club called Crazy Horse Paris. Photos showed the pair holding hands as they left the theater, marking their first public appearance as a couple.
