Taylor Swift Returns to No. 1 on U.K. Albums Chart Following ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Anniversary

Taylor Swift has returned to the top of the U.K. Albums Chart April 25 with The Tortured Poets Department following a recent physical reissue.

A new signed CD variant, released to commemorate the album’s first anniversary on April 19, propelled the album 23 places to the top spot. Upon release in April 2024 2024, The Tortured Poets Department broke multiple Official Charts records and surpassed Adele’s 30 (2021) to become the biggest opening week for an album since Ed Sheeran’s Divide in 2017.

The return to the top gives Swift her 11th non-consecutive week at No. 1 with the LP, her longest running in the U.K. yet. On the Billboard 200, the record has notched a massive 17 non-consecutive weeks in the top spot.

Earlier this year, Swift surpassed Madonna to become the female artist with the most No. 1 albums in U.K. chart history. Lover (Live In Paris), a live album first released in 2023, was reissued on special heart-shaped double-vinyl released in time for Valentine’s Day, and gave Swift her 13th different chart-topper.

The remainder of the top five is populated by Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet, which holds at No. 2; Ed Sheeran’s +–=÷× (Tour Collection) lands at No. 3; Fleetwood Mac’s greatest hits 50 Years – Don’t Stop rises three places to No. 4; The Weeknd’s compilation The Highlights finishes the week at No. 5.

Nigerian-American artist Davido achieves a career high with his fifth studio album, 5ive, which lands at No. 7. His previous high on the Official Albums Chart was with 2023’s Timeless (No. 10).

Following its deluxe reissue with two new songs, Irish rockers Fontaines D.C.’s Romance lifts 18 spots to No. 24. The album originally peaked at No. 2 behind Carpenter in August 2024. Central Cee’s Can’t Rush Greatness returns to the top 40 (No. 38) following the commencement of his U.K. and Ireland arena tour.

Doechii’s Alligator Bites Never Heal breaks into the top 40 for the first time this week at No. 38 following its release onto vinyl.
