Carly Rae Jepsen is on board for the new Broadway musical version of 10 Things I Hate About You, producer Mike Bosner confirmed today after rumors circulated last year. Jepsen will co-write the score with Bon Iver collaborator Ethan Gruska. The adaptation of the teen rom-com comes with a book by Lena Dunham and playwright Jessica Huang. Christopher Wheeldon is directing and choreographing, and music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations are in the two-time Tony-winning hands of Tom Kitt. No information on the show’s Broadway opening have yet been revealed.
As well as collaborating with Justin Vernon on the 2022 single “So Unimportant,” Jepsen’s co-writer Ethan Gruska has won a Grammy for engineering Boygenius’ The Record, and co-wrote several songs on Jepsen’s 2023 album, The Loveliest Time. Dunham has her own rom-com series, Too Much, heading to Netflix this year.
