On Tuesday (April 8), the Giants announced a new partnership with EMPIRE and debuted the bold new City Connect jersey. The fresh jersey came together after the MLB team linked with numerous Bay Area creatives to help bring it to life. Rexx Life Raj, LaRussell and EMPIRE’s CEO Ghazi Shami are just a few of the artists helping to bring this creative vision to life.

The purple laced through the new City Connect jersey honors the Fillmore’s stage lights and Haight-Ashbury’s posters, a timeless symbol of rebellion and artistry. The color scheme also pays tribute to the Giants from 1913 to 1917, when the team wore violet in New York as a nod to New York University. Also added is a stitched glove patch, which is inspired by 1960s gig posters and meant to drive home this fusion of past and present.

“San Francisco’s music scene has always been a powerful expression of the city’s soul, making this collaboration with Ghazi and EMPIRE a natural fit for the debut of our new City Connect uniform,” Rachel Heit, chief marketing officer of the San Francisco Giants, said in a statement. “As one of baseball’s most storied franchises, the Giants have always reflected the energy of our city, and this City Connect uniform is our way of honoring that legacy by remixing it with the culture and spirit that makes San Francisco so special.”

This isn’t the first time EMPIRE has joined forces with the local sports community this year. In February, it partnered with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors for a new album that came out around NBA All-Star weekend. The project, titled For the Soil, featured numerous Bay Area talents, including Too $hort and E-40.
