Perfume Genius: Glory [Matador]
Following the cryptic, nonlinear compositions of 2022’s Ugly Season, Mike Hadreas returns to a more conventional singer-songwriter mode on his seventh studio album as Perfume Genius. The blistering one-two punch of lead single “It’s a Mirror” and the Aldous Harding duet “No Front Teeth” turns out to be a bit of a misdirect, as Glory is also Hadreas’ quietest, most reserved record in over a decade. That said, he and co-producer Blake Mills still muster up moments of sublime beauty like it’s just another Tuesday; see the tender devotional “Me & Angel,” a maybe-tribute to Celine Dion, and “In a Row,” the rollicking, 11th-hour showstopper that could even unseat “Queen” as his concert-closer of choice.

Destroyer: Dan’s Boogie [Merge]
Dan Bejar spent the first months of 2025 on the road with Father John Misty. The two artists’ songwriting styles may seem nearly antithetical—one openhearted despite himself, the other sardonic to a fault— but, just a few seconds into Dan’s Boogie, it all clicks into place, as opening track “The Same Thing as Nothing at All” practically drips with the luster of Mahashmashana. But Bejar takes his new Destroyer album to places only he could go, like the sound of science-fiction film soundtracks (“The Ignoramus of Love”), balearic pop (“Bologna”), and what can best be described as “marching band bar rock” (“Sun Meet Snow”). “Fools rush in, but you’re the only one with guts” Bejar sings on the single “Hydroplaning off the Edge of the World,” and he could just as easily be talking about himself.

Lucy Dacus: Forever Is a Feeling [Geffen]
Forever Is a Feeling is the follow-up to Lucy Dacus’ 2021 LP, Home Video, and her Grammy-winning debut with Boygenius, The Record. Dacus announced her fourth studio album with two lead singles—“Ankles” and “Limerence.” The former arrived with a playful music video starring Dacus frolicking around Paris in a ballgown. She followed the two tracks with “Best Guess” and “Talk.” The visual for “Best Guess” was an homage to 1990s Calvin Klein ads, and included cameos from Cara Delevigne, Towa Bird, and Muna’s Naomi McPherson. Dacus co-produced “Talk” with Blake Mills. Dacus continues her tour in support of Forever Is a Feeling next month.

Aya: Hexed! [Hyperdub]
London-based DJ and producer Aya returns with her second studio LP, Hexed! The follow-up to her 2021 breakout, Im Hole, was mixed by James Ginzburg and mastered by the British producer Joker, who also mastered Aya’s Lip Flip EP. Hexed! is a 10-track hyperpop assault marked by precise textures and explosive percussion. Aya shared walloping lead single “Off to the Esso” upon announcing the album, followed by the slightly mellower “Navel Gazer.”

YT: Oi! [G2G]
Oi! is the latest release from London rapper YT, who went viral a couple of years back for his outerwear inspired cut “Arc’teryx.” The new project follows 2023’s #StillSwaggin. YT—who celebrated his graduation from the University of Oxford with #StillSwaggin opener “The One (Just Got My Degree)”—draws heavily upon Y2K hip-hop production for his often humorous tracks. Oi! includes the singles “Black & Tan” and “Prada or Celine.”

Eiko Ishibashi: Antigone [Drag City]
Antigone is the latest studio album from composer and multi-instrumentalist Eiko Ishibashi. She recorded the sweeping, cinematic project with accordionist Kalle Moberg, bassist Marty Holoubek, drummer Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, and percussionist Joe Talia. Her creative and romantic partner, Jim O’Rourke, also features on the album, playing six-string bass and synthesizers, while Ermhoi contributes backing vocals. The record arrives after Ishibashi completed a pair of film scores, for Drive My Car and Evil Does Not Exist, both directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi.

Great Grandpa: Patience, Moonbeam [Run for Cover]
Patience, Moonbeam is the first album from Seattle indie-rock quintet Great Grandpa in nearly six years. Their debut LP, Plastic Cough, landed in 2017, followed not long after by 2019’s Four of Arrows. “We’re all like individual swinging pendulums,” guitarist Dylan Hanwright said in press materials, discussing Great Grandpa’s creative process and alluding to the time that’s elapsed since their last album. “Every now and then we come into sync for a few rotations.… When it does come together, it’s really beautiful.”

Ohyung: You Are Always on My Mind [NNA Tapes]
You Are Always on My Mind is the latest album from Brooklyn-based artist Ohyung—aka composer Lia Ouyang Rusli. The follow-up to their 2022 LP, Imagine Naked!, features 11 tracks that meld electronic, trip-hop production, shoegaze, and dreampop, which are all conduits for Ohyung’s exploration of their gender transition. Ohyung has described the album as “my trans self and my former self in conversation, from both perspectives.” Ohyung produced and mixed the project, which contains the singles “No Good,” “I Swear That I Could Die RN,” and “Dancing on the Soft Knife.”

Sandwell District: End Beginnings [The Point of Departure]
Sandwell District, the elusive UK techno collective, have returned with their first album in 15 years. End Beginnings follows their 2010 debut, Feed Forward, which was a highly coveted record even before its release, due to word-of-mouth buzz around the group. Regis (aka musician and Sandwell District founder Karl O’Connor) and Function (DJ and producer David Sumner) made End Beginnings in homage to their late Sandwell District collaborator Juan Mendez, who recorded as Silent Servant and created visuals for the label. The album title was taken from an unfinished piece of art Mendez was working on before he died.
