Chappell Roan scored her first No. 1 single in the U.K. with “Pink Pony Club” on Friday (March 7). The song was first released in 2020 and featured on her 2023 debut, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. The song ends Roan’s quest for a U.K. No. 1 after her singles “Hot to Go!” and “Good Luck, Babe!” peaked at No. 4 and No. 2, respectively.

“Pink Pony Club” rises one place week-on-week and holds off Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which claimed the top spot on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart for the past two weeks. Roan’s song is currently continuing to climb on the Billboard Hot 100 and this week hit a new peak at No. 8.

The news comes following her duet with Sir Elton John at Sunday’s AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party in Hollywood. The queer anthem was inspired by Roan’s first visits to Los Angeles and the bars and clubs that promote positivity and expression.

Next Friday (March 13), Roan will release her new single “The Giver,” which she has been teasing on her social profiles and on billboards for a number of weeks. On Tuesday, she shared more about her dabbling with a new country sound. “I have such a special place in my heart for country music,” she wrote on her Instagram. “I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bon fires, grocery stores and karaoke bars.”

“Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album???” the Missouri-born musician continued. “My answer is.. hmm right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on c–try xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for yall.”

Lamar’s “Not Like Us” falls one place to No. 2, while Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” hits a new peak at No. 3. Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” (No. 4) and Tate McRae’s “Sports Car” (No. 5) round out the top five, and there’s post-BRITs bump for performers on the night, including Lola Young (“Messy,” No. 7), Myles Smith (“Nice to Meet You,” No. 8) and Teddy Swims (“Bad Dreams,” No. 10.)
