Kelly Rowland Says Tina Knowles Was a ‘Wonderful Example’ of Female Support & Empowerment

Kelly Rowland is an avid supporter of women supporting women — and she had a great role model to look up to in her Destiny’s Child days.
The superstar joined Jennifer Hudson on the latter’s daytime talk show, where Hudson asked Rowland what inspired her passionate uplifting of her fellow women. The “Dilemma” singer revealed that Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, was a “wonderful example” for her back when she would spend time in Knowles’ popular hair salon in Houston, Texas.
“Being in Destiny’s Child growing up and the hair salon, seeing Tina’s salon — she had so many incredible women coming in and out of those doors, and seeing how supportive they were of her and she was of them,” she said. “You watch and you learn. I think Mama T was a wonderful example and the people she surrounded us with.”
Speaking of Destiny’s Child, the group reunited back in November to support Michelle Williams as Viola Van Horn in the Broadway musical Death Becomes Her based on the film of the same name. “She’s amazing! It’s so funny because when I got there, I was so caught off guard,” Rowland gushed. “We were so happy for her. She was coming to the back making sure we were OK, and we were like, ‘Go put some clothes on!’ She was so worried about us! We went later that night and celebrated her and had a wonderful time. She’s spectacular and I’m so proud of her.”
