Azealia Banks Explains Why Taylor Swift ‘Reminds Me a Lot of Cher’
Written by djfrosty on January 30, 2025
After praising Taylor Swift earlier this week, Azealia Banks is now sharing which other superstar the “Fortnight” singer reminds her of: Cher.
On X Thursday (Jan. 30), the “212” rapper retweeted a post about Swift welcoming Mary J. Blige on the 1989 World Tour and remarked, “Taylor reminds me a lot of Cher.”
Blige recently recalled how Swift personally invited her to sing “Family Affair” at the Staples Center in 2015, telling People that the duet was entirely the Eras Tour headliner’s idea. In her post, Banks compared the two women’s camaraderie to Cher’s friendship with Tina Turner and wrote, “The love Cher had for Tina in her eyes was real girl power s–t.”
“Like Kudos to Taylor for being [a] real f–king woman,” she added.

Banks’ latest take comes a day after she sang Swift’s praises on X, writing that she “really respect[s] the way she carries herself it’s refreshing.”
“Taylor doesn’t bother anybody,” the New York native added at the time. “To have beef with her or over is a real sign of TRUE lack of self esteem … She really makes her music and minds her biz.”
Banks’ words are notable considering how many artists she definitely doesn’t respect, with the rapper earning a reputation for bickering with other stars online — Grimes and Matty Healy, to name a couple recent examples — over the years. She’s also known for doubling down on her takes when pressed, and her kind words for Swift are no exception. In response to people questioning her praise of the 14-time Grammy winner, the “Luxury” artist wrote Thursday, “I don’t care what people have to say about Taylor – ALL OF YOUR FAVES ARE FAKE PHONY PITIFUL THREATENED EXCUSES OF WOMEN.”
