Deitrick Haddon achieves his fourth No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart as “Never Be the Same” ascends to the top of the survey dated Feb. 1. During the Jan. 17-23 tracking week, the song increased by 11% in plays, according to Luminate.
“Never Be the Same” was authored solely by Haddon and he co-produced it with Marcus Hodge. It’s from Haddon’s 17-song album, One Night in California, which was released last May.
For the 51-year-old Haddon, a native of Detroit, “Never Be the Same” follows his team-up with Voices of Unity, “Back to Life,” which climbed to No. 22 on Gospel Airplay in January 2024. In March 2023, “Here Comes the Joy” gave Haddon his third No. 1, leading for a week. “Sick World,” with Zaytoven, hit No. 29 in April 2021 and “Complete Me” reached No. 25 that January.
Haddon earned his second Gospel Airplay leader with “Open Door Season,” which dominated for two weeks in June 2020. His first No. 1, “A Billion People,” reigned for a week in September 2017. He scored his first of 12 top 10s with his rookie entry, “God Is Good,” which hit No. 4 in March 2005.
Haddon was one of six ministers featured on Oxygen’s Preachers of L.A. in 2013-14. Wayne Chaney Jr., Ron Gibson, Jay Haizlip, Noel Jones and Clarence McClendon rounded out the cast.
Haddon currently makes his home in Los Angeles, where he and his wife, Dominique, are co-pastors of Hill City Church. They have partnered with World Vision USA to help provide items to victims of the Los Angeles-area wildfires.
