Longtime booking agent Scott Pang passed away on Thursday (Jan. 23) after suffering from a cardiac arrest. He was 69 years old.
“He loved what he did and he was always on the phone,” his son Thompson Pang tells Billboard. “He knew so many people, it was crazy.”
Pang was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on Aug. 5, 1955, to a schoolteacher father and a mother who was a homemaker. He headed to California in the late 1970s to attend UC San Diego and pursue a career as an agent, ultimately landing a job at the William Morris Agency (now WME) in 1980. In 1990, he joined the Ice Capades and the Harlem Globetrotters to serve as their director of touring, before joining ICM Partners in 1994 where he worked with artists like Lauryn Hill, The Beach Boys, Usher, Zendaya and many more.
Pang left ICM in 2020 after the company merged with CAA and began working independently with his clients. He was a regular presence at industry events like Pollstar Live, the International Entertainment Buyers Association and the International Association of Venue Managers’ VenueConnect conference. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed Southern California car culture and spent many weekends at car shows in and around the San Fernando Valley.
Pang is survived by his four children — his eldest son Thompson, twins Andrew and Lily and youngest daughter Katie — and his longtime spouse Greta. Services will likely be held at St. Bernadine in Woodland Hills, Calif., with a funeral date to be announced.
