Stevie Wonder Once Told Carmelo Anthony How Much He Loves to Watch Him Play

Written by on November 14, 2024

Carmelo Anthony is finally telling his “Is Stevie Wonder really blind” story.

Celebrities and fans alike love telling tales about the legendary Stevie Wonder doing and saying things that may or may not prove that he can see. There are full-on (tongue-in-cheek) conspiracy theories about this subject.

One famous story was told by Shaq a few years ago on Inside the NBA when the Hall of Fame big man claimed the famous singer and songwriter walked into an elevator in the L.A. building they lived in, turned his way to say what’s up, pressed his floor, and got off and walked to his apartment.

During a recent episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast with co-hosts The Kid Mero, Kazeem Famuyide and guest Rudy Gay, the former New York Knick told a story about meeting Stevie Wonder for the first time. As he begins to tell the story, his co-hosts give him a hard time because they know where it’s going, but Melo is still able to compose himself and powers through.

So, apparently, during the 2011 NBA All-Star Game in L.A., Stevie Wonder was allowed into the locker room to meet the players. As he made his way around the room, he shook Anthony’s hand and allegedly told the future Hall of Famer, “I love watching you play.” Of course, his co-hosts begin to lose it, although Carmelo swears by it and mentions that there’s another part to the saga, but he won’t tell it because Kobe isn’t here anymore and only he can.

The legend seems to be in on the jokes, though, as he once told TMZ that he would reveal the truth one day back in 2017.
