Cox Media Group Orlando relaunched its WOEX Éxitos 96.5 station as HITS 96.5. The new Spanish AC format will be a hybrid of Spanish and English music featuring pop hits from the ’80s, ’90s and ’00s by artists like Michael Jackson, Ed Sheeran, Adele and Shakira.
HITS 96.5 will be hosted by Spanish-speaking radio personalities including Epi Colon, Liliani Hernandez, Luis Angel and Martica.
“Our responsibility as broadcasters is to serve our community — our entire community,” JC Campese, vp/market manager for CMG Radio Orlando, said in a statement. “As Central Florida continues to grow, our community has asked for a station like HITS 96.5, and we’re proud to deliver this exciting new brand on the largest broadcast signal in the Orlando market.”

“We’re thrilled to bring Hispanics in Orlando the music they grew up with from the ’80s, ’90s and today, but with on-air personalities speaking to them in Spanish,” added Raymond Hernandez, who joined the station two years ago and is now director of branding & programming at the new HITS 96.5. “We want to break out of the usual Latin formats and deliver music and content in the way Hispanics are accustomed to in their countries of origin.”
HITS 96.5 isn’t the first radio station to mix Spanish-language and English-language music in their broadcasts. Earlier this year, iHeartMedia adopted this hybrid format for its stations in Miami and other cities in Florida, introducing Magic 100.1 (formerly Hot AC Y100.1) in Fort Myers. That station also blends English-language music from the ‘80s and ‘90s with Spanish-language on-air personalities.
