Before the artists took the stage at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which aired on Sunday (Oct. 20), they walked the red carpet and shared with Billboard anecdotes and moments that you didn’t see on television.
Just after receiving their award for tropical song of the year for “Cosas de la Peda,” Prince Royce and Gabito Ballesteros proposed working on an EP together. And Maria Becerra shared the backstory of her fairly new Selena-inspired tattoo.
This year’s ceremony was led by big winner Karol G, who took home eight trophies, including Global 200 Latin artist of the year and tour of the year. Her song “Qlona” with Peso Pluma won awards for Hot Latin song of the year; Hot Latin Song of the year, vocal event; and streaming song of the year.
Bad Bunny received six awards, including artist of the year and his album Nadie Sabe lo que Va a Pasar Mañana was honored with Top Latin Album of the year and Latin rhythm album of the year. Peso Pluma also received six awards, three of them for “Qlona” with Karol G, as well as Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, male; regional Mexican artist of the year, solo; and songwriter of the year. Meanwhile, artists such as Fuerza Regida, Yandel, Grupo Niche, Proyecto Uno, Xavi and Luis Alfonso, among others, took center stage at the ceremony for memorable performances.
Additionally, the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards recognized Pepe Aguilar, Alejandro Sanz and J Balvin were honored with special recognitions. Both Aguilar and J Balvin also delivered riveting sets during the two-hour show.
As all of this was being televised live on Telemundo, Billboard was catching all the action backstage and at the red carpet that you didn’t see on TV. Check out the list below:
FloyyMenor Teases J Balvin Collaboration
At the blue carpet, after winning Global 200 Latin song of the year for “Gata Only,” Floyymenor expressed his gratitude and excitement for making Chilean history with his Billboard award. The song, in collaboration with Cris MJ, not only entered the Billboard Global 200 chart but also the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., Billboard Hot 100, and Hot Latin Songs charts, among others. On the latter, it spent 14 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1. On the heels of “Gata Only’s” success, the Chilean newcomer (real name: Alan Felipe Galleguillos) revealed to Billboard backstage that he’s working on a lot of music, including an exciting upcoming collaboration with J Balvin.
Maria Becerra’s Selena Tattoo
Maria Becerra walked the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards red carpet in a gorgeous sleeveless long white dress, showing off the Selena-inspired tattoo on her right arm. It’s ink that she recently got, the Argentine hitmaker confesses. “I got this less than a year ago,” says Becerra, who performed “Borracha” at the ceremony alongside Gloria Trevi. “It is a tattoo that really represents me a lot. Selena for me, everyone knows it, those who know me, the music I make, how I dress, know that she is a clear example for me not only as a singer but as a person and a fashion icon that she was. The truth is that she is always present for me, that’s why I got her [name] tattooed.”
Chachito and Oscar Maydon Join Forces
Chachito, one of the songwriters behind Peso Pluma, Gabito Ballesteros and Junior H’s “Lady Gaga,” spoke to Billboard before entering the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards. There, the Mexican singer-songwriter shared that he and fellow regional Mexican artist, Oscar Maydon, have joined forces to launch a society. “It’s a company that we created called Rico Muerto Music and it’s a new label and we already have talent signed and we are blessed with everything,” Chachito (born Alexis Armando Fierro Román) explains. “We are signing and looking for talent. We are always looking for them at TikTok. I spend all night looking for them and we are looking for very young figures who can sing, compose and we promote them.”
More Prince Royce & Gabito Ballesteros Collabs?
Prince Royce and Gabito Ballesteros not only performed their first collaborative effort, “Cosas de la Peda,” but also won the award for tropical song of the year. The two later stopped by backstage to speak to Billboard about their big night, and hinted at potentially working on another project together in the future. “We’re going to do an album of all bachata tumbada,” Ballesteros declares. When asked if it’s true, Prince Royce adds, “I don’t know, he’s just proposing this now. I’d be down. An EP, five or six songs. Let’s see.”
Upcoming Xavi Tour
Xavi was grateful for being able to attend his first ever Billboard Latin Music Awards, where he won big, taking home artist of the year, new. But before performing onstage and picking up his trophy, the Mexican American hitmaker exclusively announced that he will go on tour next year. “Dreams do come true,” he says in the clip below:

I’m not saying no to working together,” the influencer adds. “I hope it happens,” says Beéle.
