Scarface Shares Positive Health Update After Open-Heart Surgery: ‘God Ain’t Nothing to Play With’

Written by on October 8, 2024

Scarface recently underwent open-heart surgery, and is assuring fans that he was doing fine just in time for the 2025 Grandmaster Awards in Las Vegas, where he and other legends such as Grandmaster Caz, Kool Moe Dee and Roxanne Shanté were honored.

He posted a picture of himself on Instagram, smiling ear to ear as he made his way to the stage, with a caption that reads, “6wks ago I underwent open heart surgery, to be upright and smiling today shows you that God aint nothing to play with… and again I say, I’m grateful, it could’ve went either way, yet I’m still alive…” Back in August, the Texas rap legend posted photo on Instagram of himself lying on a hospital bed while in the ICU at Houston Methodist Hospital after just getting open heart surgery.

This isn’t the first health scare for Mr. Scarface. In 2021, the 53-year-old had a kidney transplant, and a year before that, he was on dialysis due to kidney failure brought on by COVID-19. The new kidney was courtesy of his son and tour manager Chris Jordan. The elder Face Mob took to Instagram Live to thank him. “I’m so proud of you. I love you too much. You saved my muthaf—in’ life,” he told his son. “You low down muthaf—a. You’re selfish. Won’t let a n—a die. That n—a will not let me die. I ain’t gonna tear up in here in front of all these people on Instagram Live.”

After recovering from donating his kidney, Chris set up the Wayne C. Wilson Quality of Life Foundation. “Now that I’m on this side of recovery, I plan to bring awareness on organ donation to the community,” he said in a statement. “I want to teach the importance of maintaining our health in the African American community. We suffer from high blood pressure and diabetes, both in which can lead to kidney failure. I want to focus on prevention and quality of life.”
