Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are headed to the city. Specifically the Boss’ new touring doc, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, will become the latest rock doc to be showcased in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Screening Series next week when the movie will be shown at the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan on Oct. 15 followed by a screening at the David Geffen Theater at the Motion Picture Academy in Los Angeles on Oct. 21.

Both showings will be followed by a conversation with Springsteen, his longtime manager/producer Jon Landau and the movie’s director, Tom Zimny in a chat moderated by RRHOF chairman John Sykes.

The screening series that launched last year to showcase the best in music films and documentaries will preview the Springsteen film before it debuts on Hulu and Disney+ on Oct. 25. “Bruce Springsteen is one of the great artists and storytellers of our time”, said Sykes in a statement. “With this film, we hear firsthand from Bruce about how music has shaped his life and learn the story behind how his legendary E Street Band continues to redefine the live music experience for over five decades.”

Road Diary had its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival last month, where the director talked about the film chronicling the band’s preparation for their 2023-2024 world trek. “I was hoping with the film to give the casual fan a sense of Bruce, but also the über fan approach. What I wanted to show was there’s elements of a brotherhood that you see in how they first greet each other — nothing is staged, none of it is rehearsed,” Zimny told Billboard on the festival’s red carpet.

“I sat there for days filming them, and what came across for me — and what I think is unique compared to the other docs — was this musical language that they have, where they work out songs… So, I think, the big surprise is how deep that bond is. You see it in the footage, and then you see them share that with the crowds.” Zimny has previously directed the Springsteen docs Western Stars (2019), Springsteen on Broadway (2018) The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town (2010) and 2005’s Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born To Run.

The E Street Band’s global trek will keep rolling on Oct. 31 when it hits the Bell Centre in Montreal.
