The Chicks to Sing the National Anthem on Final Day of 2024 Democratic National Convention

The Chicks are set to perform the national anthem at this year’s Democratic National Convention Thursday (Aug. 22), as originally reported by CNN and confirmed by Billboard.

In support of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s 2024 White House bid, the country trio will take the stage at Chicago’s United Center on the final day of the four-day political gathering. Pink is also slated to perform, while the vice president will close out the convention by formally accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

The news follows the first three days of this year’s DNC, which is back in full force following 2020’s pandemic-necessitated virtual conference. So far, it’s been packed with star performances from Mickey Guyton, Jason Isbell, Patti LaBelle, Common, Maren Morris, Stevie Wonder, John Legend and Sheila E., while Lil Jon made an appearance to deliver Georgia’s roll call with an energetic rendition of his hit “Turn Down for What.”

Comprised of Natalie Maines and sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, The Chicks have long been vocal about their liberal political leanings — at one point disrupting the country music industry in 2003 with their criticism of former president George W. Bush. The trio previously performed at the virtual DNC in 2020.

Overall, the Harris-Walz ticket has seen a remarkable amount of support from A-list musicians, with Ariana Grande, Barbra Streisand, Cardi B, Carole King and dozens more endorsing the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in July. Beyoncé has also been quietly involved in the former attorney’s campaign, clearing the use of her hit song “Freedom” in Harris’ materials while sending republican opponent Donald Trump a cease-and-desist for using the same track.
