It’s Katy’s world and we’re just living in it.  Katy Perry has dropped her new single, “Woman’s World,” and to celebrate, we’re looking back at her impressive chart achievements.  This is Billboard Explains: Katy Perry’s Success on the Billboard Charts.

Katy Perry made her Billboard chart debut with “I Kissed a Girl.” The single kicked off her career in a huge way, spending seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was named the song of the summer for 2008. The song’s momentum set her One of the Boys album up for success. It peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and spent 92 weeks on the chart.

Katy also scored two more Hot 100 top 10s from that album: “Hot n Cold” at No. 3 and “Waking Up in Vegas” reached No. 9. Next came her record-making 2010 sophomore album, Teenage Dream. It made history with five No. 1 singles on the Hot 100: “California Gurls” with Snoop Dogg, the album’s title track, “Firework,” “E.T.” featuring Kanye West, and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F).” Teenage Dream was the first album by a woman with five No. 1 hits and only the second by any artist – tying Michael Jackson’s Bad for the record. The album became Katy’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and is still on the chart – at 380 weeks and counting.

In total, Katy has nine No. 1 hits on the Hot 100, including “Part of Me,” “Roar” and “Dark Horse” featuring Juicy J.
