Eight teams are officially on their way to quarter finals at the 2024 Copa América Conmebol: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Argentina and Ecuador are set to play the first match at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday (July 4), followed by Venezuela and Canada at 9 p.m. ET on Friday (July 5), and on Saturday (July 6), Colombia and Panama will play at 6 p.m. ET, as well as Uruguay and Brazil at 9 p.m. ET.
The competition is stiff, as all teams have demonstrated their best skills on the field since Copa began on June 20. Perú, México, Chile, Jamaica, Bolivia, EEUU, Costa Rica, and Paraguay have been eliminated from the tournament.
Ahead of the 2024 champions being announced on July 14, Billboard has compiled a list of official and unofficial songs that some of the remaining national soccer teams are celebrating with.
Ryan Castro, for example, has contributed “El Ritmo Que Nos Une,” a catchy urban-cumbia fusion that honors Colombia’s vibrant team. Salsa singer Jonathan Moly, on the other hand, teamed up with local act Alex Otra Nota for “Sangre Vinotinto,” a tambores-based tune that perfectly describes how Venezuelans feel with their national team. And a jingle that captures Argentina’s passion for soccer has not only gone viral on social media but been named the team’s newest anthem. (See the full list below)
The Copa América can be watched in Spanish in the United States on Univision, TUDN and UniMás, as well as via streaming platforms FuboTV and TUDN.
Argentina
After celebrating their victory at the 2022 World Cup with La Mosca Tse Tse’s “Muchachos, Ahora Nos Volvimos a Ilusionar,” the Argentinean soccer team has adopted a new anthem for the 2024 Copa America. A viral chant created by jingle producer and composer Pablo Quintana (a.k.a. Palmito) has as of late captivated the entire soccer team. “I imagine winning another Copa with Leo [Messi]/To bring the glory from The United States to Argentine/And to demonstrate to everyone what it means to be Argentinean,” goes part of the lyrics.
A song titled “Brasil para Sempre” (Always Brazil) has become the latest anthem for Brazil’s national soccer team during its Copa journey. The mid-tempo samba track “captures the spirit of unity, pride and resilience that defines Brazilian football,” according to the caption description on YouTube. Its lyrics, sung in Portuguese, detail the challenges and wins that the team had endured in its trajectory.
Teaming up with his longtime collaborator SOG, Ryan Castro provides the official song for Colombia’s national team, “El Ritmo Que Nos Une” (The Rhythm That Unites Us). Bringing to the forefront Colombia’s vibrant culture, the track fuses Medellín’s swagger, hard-hitting perreo and even traditional cumbia melodies. Castro also reels in soccer team members Juan Fernando Quintero and Luis Diaz for an exciting collaborative effort.
A local Ecuadorean artist called Henvar has produced a lively track in support of Ecuador’s national team at the Copa America. Backed by drums and Latin-house fusion, the song details a soccer aficionado’s dream to see their home team win the Copa America. “Ecuador, I love you in my heart/ I go crazy if you score a goal/ We dream of becoming champions,” goes the jingle. “This song is no longer mine, it’s for all of Ecuador,” the artist wrote on his YouTube channel.
Urban artist Jotape dropped a track called “Mi Selección,” which has served as a motivational tune for the national Uruguayan soccer team and locals alike. In the rhythmic song, backed by captivating drum beats and tropical melodies, the artist chants: “Uruguayans in America/ We came to represent/ The culture of my people/ We’re making it to the end.”
Salsa artist Jonathan Moly and newecomer Alex Otra Nota have joined forces on “Sangre Vinotinto,” in celebration of Venezuela’s national team at the Copa America. “In Venezuela, our blood is red wine, we always give it all,” goes the catchy chorus, which is powered by captivating tambores and electronic beats. Meanwhile, local act Gigi Méndez is also ecstatic over her country’s incredible performance at the soccer match, and also delivered the heartfelt “Somos Vinotinto” in support.
