Kacey Musgraves Recalls Almost Falling Off a Cliff While Shooting the ‘Deeper Well’ Music Video

Kacey Musgraves has returned with her new album Deeper Well, but according to her, she almost didn’t live to see the day.
While shooting the music video for the project’s title track in Iceland, the country star said she almost took a windblown tumble off an extremely tall, steep precipice. “We picked literally the worst possible week to go,” she told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Thursday (March 14). “It was high wind advisories — I almost got blown off that cliff.”
“I was almost like, ‘This video will be my death announcement,’” she continued, laughing. “It was a sheer drop down to the ocean. It was treacherous. Even the locals were like, ‘This is some scary s–t.’”
The country star also shared a video of her and her crew huddling together against the ear-splitting wind, Musgraves holding tightly onto her jacket so that it doesn’t fly off her body.

Luckily, the “Deeper Well” visual turned out to be stunning, featuring shots of the singer-songwriter wandering through luscious farmlands and beaches, as well as bird’s-eye footage of Iceland’s gorgeous canyons. But the raging winds weren’t the only unexpected mishap Musgraves encountered while in the country, with the star telling Fallon that she and her manager were mailed a speeding ticket overseas after racing home from a failed Northern Lights viewing expedition.
“It was 10 dollars, so it was worth it, obviously,” she quipped, showing the audience a photo Iceland’s hidden speeding cameras snapped of her in the car.
Deeper Well arrived at midnight Friday (March 15), marking Musgraves’ first LP since 2021’s Star-Crossed. The project was preceded by two singles — its title track and “Too Good to be True.”
