Daft Punk Wax Figures Revealed at Madame Tussauds New York

Written by on February 27, 2024

Daft Punk is going face to face in a whole new way, with Madame Tussauds New York revealing new wax figures of the French duo.

Capturing the pair — Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo — in their Random Access Memories-era silk and velvet suits, the figures debuted in the facility on Tuesday (Feb. 27.) The duo are installed in the facility’s “Glow Gala” area, inspired by New York’s gala scene, with a no-scrubs crew of nearby figures including Ariana Grande, Matthew McConaughey, Rihanna and Beyoncé.

With designers not having to focus attention on the faces of the always helmeted artists, the focus in this project was on the clothes, with the wax Daft Punk sporting custom-tailored replicas of Saint Laurent’s black sequined Le Smoking tuxedo suits designed by Hedi Slimane for Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories project. The figures extend a huge 10-year anniversary celebration for the pair’s Grammy album of the year winner.

The figures were first unveiled at a party at Brooklyn club Avant Gardner, put on in collaboration with French DJ collective Maison Disco.

“As Daft Punk and Madame Tussauds both share French origins, this collaboration is a testament to the innovation and artistic brilliance of those that came before us and the ability of music and art to transcend global boundaries,” Ben Shapiro, marketing executive at Madame Tussauds New York, said in a statement. “We’re honored to welcome fans from ‘Around the World’ to the attraction to see their idols ‘One More Time’ and celebrate the legacy of Daft Punk and French House music.”

Daft Punk are the latest in a very long line of musicians to get the iconic Madame Tussauds treatment, with Bad Bunny, Travis Barker and RuPaul all recently getting figures. The history of Madame Tussauds goes back to 1835 London, when a wax museum was founded by French wax sculptor Marie Tussaud.
