Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” officially reached one billion streams on Spotify on Sunday (Dec. 3). The high point marks the first-ever música mexicana track to do so, Spotify has confirmed to Billboard Español.
The song — which premiered on April 1 as part of Eslabon Armado’s album Desvelado via DEL Records — had already made history on the all-genres Billboard Hot 100, where it reached its peak at No. 4 and sustained its presence for an impressive 23 weeks. Additionally, the track secured the top spot on various lists, including the Billboard Global 200 for six consecutive weeks, Hot Latin Songs for 19 weeks, and Latin Airplay for one week.
“Happy and blessed we woke up today, Sunday, with this, and all thanks to God and you for making it possible for the song to reach a billion,” Eslabon Armado wrote on their Instagram.
In “Ella Baila Sola,” Eslabon Armado frontman and songwriter Pedro Julian Tovar Oceguera creates a vivid narrative about two close friends captivated by a mesmerizing woman at a gathering. While the inspiration behind this track may be shrouded in mystery, Oceguera’s storytelling prowess shines through. Grounded in the sierreño tradition, the song is rich with enchanting borderland slang, capturing the essence of both Mexican and Mexican-American cultures.
Most recently, the música mexicana hit made Billboard Latin and Billboard Español’s The 50 Best Latin Pop Songs From 2000 to 2023, Ranked list at No. 12.
The track earned the aforementioned group a song of the year Latin Grammy nomination; the two acts also performed it together for the first time at the award show which was held in Seville, Spain this year.
