Foo Fighters had so much fun jamming with H.E.R. on Saturday Night Live last month that they’re releasing a quick-turnaround joint single. The band announced on Tuesday (Nov. 14) that they’re each releasing their versions of the song they performed on the show, “The Glass,” on Friday (Nov. 17).
The double A-side single of the song from the Foos’ most recent album, But Here We Are, will featuring the original studio version and H.E.R.’s newly recorded solo reinterpretation of the track. According to a release, the H.E.R. take is “nothing short of a revelation — a stunning and singular vocal/guitar performance that wrings new sonic and emotional dimensions from the original.”
“The Glass” appears on the band 11th studio album, which was just nominated for three Grammy awards (best rock album and best rock song and best rock performance for “Rescued”). The single “Glass” single will be available to stream and download on Friday, with pre-orders available now for the limited-edition vinyl 7-inch single out on Dec. 29.
The Foos performed on SNL for the ninth time on the Oct. 28 episode hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, where they performed “Rescued,” followed by “The Glass” with special surprise guest H.E.R. The first performance was introduced by another surprise performer, legendary actor Christopher Walken. Foos singer Dave Grohl also pitched in on a couple of sketches during the show, flexing his comedy muscles in a bit about pregnant woman on a plane in search of a doctor and a pre-recorded parody song about a country trio singing about the pleasures of partying on a lake beach.
