On Wednesdays we wear pink — and score early Black Friday deals from Walmart, with a little lesson from Missy Elliott on how to find the best prices.
The rapper starred in the superstore’s Mean Girls-themed Black Friday commerical released on Wednesday (Nov. 1). Advertising the company’s upcoming deals, the spot also starred some of the 2004 movie’s original cast members, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert and more.
True to the film, Lohan continues the narration as North Shore High School’s former it girls become parents and step into adult roles that require them to be mindful of their savings. “At North Shore, some things never change. On Wednesdays, we still wear pink,” Lohan’s Cady Heron says, as Chabert — who plays Gretchen Wieners in the film — picks up her daughter and two friends, Walmart bags in the back seat, and says “Get in sweetie, we’re going deal shopping!” Lohan continues, “Now, we shop Walmart Black Friday deals,” as Elliott’s “Pass That Dutch” plays in the background.
Karen Smith (Seyfried) still does the weather forecast and is still unable to catch a football properly. “There’s a 30 percent chance it’s already Wednesday,” she says, which then zooms out to a television located in former Mathletes president Kevin Gnapoor’s home (played by Rajiv Surendra). “Don’t let the haters stop you from doing your thang, Kevin Junior,” he tells his son, who’s playing with discounted Ninja Turtles toys.
Lohan, whose character now serves as a guidance counselor, claimed the school is “obsessed” with scoring the best deals on items — so much so, that Elliott steps in wearing a blue tracksuit and whistle (an homage to the movie’s Coach Carr) to teach student how to get the best bang for their buck. “If you have Walmart plus, you will get three hour early access to Black Friday deals,” Elliott explains, before proceeding to spell out the word “deals” for those unsure.
The school’s annual holiday talent show commences, and Damian Leigh (played by Daniel Franzese) is in charge of lighting and production. Everything goes well — that is, until the Black Friday deals fliers hit the school hallways and the school descends into madness.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Walmart release new commercials with the Mean Girls cast every Wednesday leading up to to Black Friday and on Cyber Monday, Nov. 27.
