Dave Grohl Will Totally Allow a ‘Boo Fighters’ Halloween Joke in ‘SNL’ Promo

Honestly, it’s the most obvious joke out there, so someone had to make it. In a new promo for this weekend’s Saturday Night Live stand-up comedian and first-time host Nate Bargatze is just trying to get through his introduction of himself and musical guest Foo Fighters when break-out featured player Marcello Hernández steps in to spice things up.

“Or should we say ‘Boo Fighters?’” adds Hernández, who had a killer moment during last week’s episode with double-threat Bad Bunny, in which he played a man trying to introduce his lady love to his overprotective Tia (Bunny) and mother (guest star Pedro Pascal).

“What?!” incredulous Foo Fighters singer/guitarist Dave Grohl screeches at the suggestion. “Because it’s Halloween, you know, like ‘Boo Fighters?,” Hernández responds sheepishly while trying to save the bit. “You know what man?…,” Grohl says, “That’s the best idea I’ve ever heard! as his bandmates smile in agreement.

In one of the other fresh promos, Hernández gets a bit ahead of himself by delivering excited comments in Spanish about being emotional during a week of multiculturalism where the cast can speak as much Spanish as English. “Sorry man, that was last week,” Bargatze, 44, breaks it to him. Things don’t get any better in the third video, where Hernández praises Bargatze’s stand-up prowess, but gets no love in return.

While Bargatze’s run-up to his first hosting gig has leaned into big “who is this guy?” energy, the Grammy-nominated veteran Nashville comic has five comedy albums to his name, as well as a number of streaming specials, including 2019’s The Tennessee Kid, 2021’s The Greatest Average and this year’s acclaimed Hello World. He’s also about to launch his “Be Funny” U.S. tour, which will hit theaters and arenas across the country from Nov. 1 through June 2024.
