Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ Movie Advance Ticket Sales Cross $100 Million Mark

The Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour concert movie is on track to open as the top-grossing music concert film ever. The movie chronicling the singer’s sold-out, career-spanning 2023 stadium tour doesn’t open until Oct. 13, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it has already racked up advance ticket sales of $100 million a week before it opens in more than 8,500 theaters across the world.

AMC Theatres announced on Thursday that the 2 hour and 45 minute concert film directed by Sam Wrench (Billie Eilish Live at the O2) is expected to open with $100-$125 million in grosses in North American alone, where it will play in more than 4,000 theaters in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The initial roll-out set one-day sales records for AMC with $26 million in the first 24 hours of on-sale.

If those figures hold up, before a single frame hits the screen the Eras film will easily blow past the previous record-holder for music films, 2011’s Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, whose grosses topped-out at $73 million.

AMC said that advance ticket sales are strong in the U.S. market, especially for premium formats including Imax, Dolby Cinema and PRIME at AMC. Every AMC theater in the U.S. will screen the film at 6 p.m. local time on Oct. 13, with Cinemark and Regal Cinemas also showing the movie in the U.S., while Cineplex will screen it in Canada and Cinepolis will handle it in Mexico.

The world-premiere screening will take place in Los Angeles on Oct. 11 at a time when studios have scrambled to switch-up their planned fall release schedules due to the Hollywood strikes; the writers union recently reached an agreement with the studios, while actors continue to negotiate. Swift is allowed to promote the Eras film thanks to an interim agreement struck by SAG-AFTRA that covers individual non-AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) productions that meet the same standards the unions are seeking in their negotiations with the studios.

A source close to the Swift film previously confirmed to Billboard that the Eras doc obtained clearance under that agreement before shooting the movie. Aside from a few social posts, Swift has not made any high-profile appearances to promote the film, though she has flooded the zone over the past two weeks thanks to her viral sky box appearances at a pair of Kansas City Chiefs games, at which she has been cheering on her alleged paramour, KC tight end Travis Kelce.
