On Thursday (Oct. 5), Los Ángeles Azules delivered a stunning medley of hits at the 30th annual Billboard Latin Music Awards, alongside Nicki Nicole, Ximena Sariñana and Sofía Reyes.
Flanked by white dove wings and backed by a gigantic heart as props, the men of Los Ángeles Azules showed up wearing metallic blazers, while the women wore elegant red dresses. Argentine artist Nicki Nicole performed the dolce tropical number of “Otra Noche,” then Mexican singer-songwriters Ximena Sariñana and Sofía Reyes took the stage, singing “Mis Sentimientos” and “Nunca Es Suficiente,” respectively. Then the sibling band resumed with the invigorating medley, belting out the swoon-worthy “Cómo Te Voy a Olvidar.”
Moments after delivering their potpourri of classics, the sibling band accepted their Lifetime Achievement Award. “Thanks to our parents, thanks to our families, to the fans, to all the people around the world who have supported the romantic music of Los Ángeles Azules,” said Elías Mejía, one of the members of the band of brothers, as he accepted the honor. “We are going to continue singing and dancing, and we are going to continue making cumbia, desde Iztapalapa para el mundo (from Iztapalapa for the world).”
Continuously modernizing the storied regional Mexican subgenre for the next generation, the sibling band have extended their reach tenfold by revamping their hits and writing new ones alongside an exhilarating all-star cast of Latin artists from all corners of the map.
With a 40-year musical career, Los Ángeles Azules have achieved great success, including 14 entries on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart, with three songs in the top 10. They also have 16 entries on Latin Airplay, of which six reached the top 10, including “Nunca es Suficiente,” with Natalia Lafourcade, which peaked at No. 3 in 2019. Their 2020 album De Buenos Aires Para El Mundo debuted at No. 8 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart, making it the band’s 12th album to reach the top 10 on the tally.
