On Thursday night (Oct. 5), the Latin Billboard Music Awards took over Coral Gables, Fl. for an epic 30th year. Mexican music sensation Peso Pluma leads the list of finalists with 21 nods for trophies including Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Top Latin Album of the Year.
Bad Bunny ties Grupo Frontera with 15 nods each. Five of the latter’s entries are for its hit “Bebe Dame” with Fuerza Regida while four are for the group’s collab with Bad Bunny, “un X100to.”
And yet, for the act’s performance they chose a newer hit: “El Amor De Su Vida” off its August album El Comienzo. The album scored Grupo Frontera its first top 10 entry on any chart, reaching No. 4 on Top Latin Albums, No. 2 on Regional Mexican albums and No. 39 on the all-genre Billboard 200.
For its performance, Grupo Frontera relied on its gorgeous instrumentation and Adelaido “Payo” Solís’ enticing, lovelorn vocals — keeping the stage otherwise bare. Performing in front of four pillars of lights, the minimalist prop mimicked the twinkling lights of the skyscape shown on the larger screen behind them.
Though simple, the set took viewers on a journey from sundown to the dark of night, arguably the perfect time of day for a song like “El Amor De Su Vida” — about seeing the love of your life and later “pouring alcohol on the wounds that inside I am healing” — to resonate most. By the end of the performance, Solís had stepped closer to the crowd, as if his pain, and love, couldn’t be held back.
