SZA Says Her Short-Lived Romance With Drake Was ‘Youth Vibes’

Written by on October 3, 2023

SZA don’t miss no ex, don’t miss no text — especially when it’s Drake.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the “Good Days” singer opened up about the time she casually dated Drizzy back in 2009, when the two were “really young.” She admitted, “It wasn’t hot and heavy or anything. It was like youth vibes. It was so childish.”

Drake also alluded to the duo’s relationship in his 2020 21 Savage and Metro Boomin collaboration, “Mr. Right Now,” in which he raps, “Said she wanna f— to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08 / If you cool with it, baby, she can still play.”

As for how she views romantic relationships now, SZA shared, “I feel like I have more to offer than the way I look and my energy, but it’s like, I’m human, that s— is all-encompassing. I want to stunt like me when I meet the person I envision me being with. I envision them falling in love with me the way I am. But I guess it’s like I have to release that idea. Maybe it’s because I don’t know if I’ll like the way I am later?”

The singer is currently riding a high with her S.O.S. hit “Snooze,” which marked her second No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. “Snooze” likewise is SZA’s second career champ on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. She first led with the two-week No. 1 “Shirt” in February.
