Taylor Swift’s Get Out the Vote Plea Drives Record Registration Traffic to Vote.Org

Taylor Swift can fill stadiums, is about to flood the zone in movie theaters and, we found out this week, she can also seriously get out the vote. Just days after Swift urged Swifties to register to vote on National Voter Registration Day in an Instagram Story, shocker, they listened and signed up to do their civic duty in record numbers.

On Wednesday (Sept. 20), Vote.org’s communications director, Nick Morrow, wrote on X (fka Twitter) that Swift’s plea resulted in a tidal wave of new registrations. “Fun fact: after @taylorswift13 posted on Instagram today directing her followers to register to vote on @votedotorg, our site was averaging 13,000 users every 30 minutes. 13!” he revealed, noting the cosmic coincidence of the bump coalescing with the singer’s favorite number.

“Let’s just say her reputation for being a mastermind is very well-earned,” he added.

Swift stayed mostly mum on the political front until 2018, when she endorsed Democrat Phil Bredesen for Senate in her home state of Tennessee. After that she began speaking up loudly and often, urging support for the Equality Act during Pride month, dubbing twice impeached former president Trump’s term an “autocracy” and released the call-to-arms anthem “Only the Young,” fueled by her frustration after the 2018 midterm elections.

In her note to fans on Tuesday, Swift wrote, “I’ve been so lucky to see so many of you guys at my US shows recently. I’ve heard you raise your voices, and I know how powerful they are. Make sure you’re ready to use them in our elections this year!” She urged Swifties to take a few minutes to visit vote.org/nvrd and, considering she has 272 million Instagram followers, it’s no surprise the organization saw such a massive uptick in registrations.
